Ice Cold Beer Side Art Just About Ready... Official Interest Thread...

Just talked to Rich and after he is going to start running these this weekend (as soon as he does one final test print) and screen the clear a few days later.

As of right now I'll only have about 5-10 extra sets. Yes, we can run them again based on the fact that they are solvent ink jet but because there is a clear coat screened on we'll need to start building a list.

So, come forward now if you "think" you'd like a set.

+1 on the Backglass!!!!!!!
I'd definitely be in on one of those.

Will anyone be recreating the backglass for ICB?

I really would love to do it but I really think it would be a major undertaking. In order to do it right you really need have it screened on glass and I'm pretty sure the gold ink is gold leaf. Either way, from my discussions with Rich this is a $200+ / Per back glass to make this happen and most likely closer to $300.00.

I have an opportunity to grab a project ICB without a backglass but the fellow I might get it from does and I could bring my HP 4600 for scans and then get busy with the vectors.

What if the gold was just screened with yellow. I realize this wouldn't be a 100% 'right' but perhaps a little bit more acceptable for most and work in a pinch.

Lots of gold. I'm sure you "could" you metallic gold ink (yellow ink is a really bad idea seeing there is already yellow in the art). Just not sure how close it would be but I'm sure this could be an option. Still a pretty pricy project and from what I'm seeing as far as similar reproduction pinball projects this would be pretty expensive.

Not saying this can't happen just not by me (at this time).

Someone has e-mailed me (maybe it was you?) asking me to do some high res photos / scans of my glass. Which I am willing to do. I'm also willing to help with color matching. Just a huge undertaking.

Well, it looks like I'm buying this non-working project ICB for $125 without a backglass.

Worst case scenario, I stitch the scans and get a decal printed which I'll just adhere to glass/plexi. Better than nuthin' in the meantime, right?

Say, is the gold mirrored or flat like the new LOTR LE backglasses?

So it iis a "mirror gold"?
yeah agree with Bill if thats the case, a mettatic gold could be screened in place of it
but the price on these, shipping these, and getting the art ready for something like this would be huge

Darin sell's 4-color screened Warlords glass for $200 plus $50 delivery. I don't think that's huge.

Shayarcadegroup.com sell their pinball backglasses for $295 each plus ~$60 delivery. That's a bit expensive, imho.

Classicplayfields.com sell their backglasses for $200-$230 (with mirroring) and ~$45 for delivery. Their stuff is stellar.

Could it be done for around $200? I that would be fair.

well for starters
the pinabll market is MUCH bigger then those whod be in a ICB or even arcades for that matter its tuff to get eoungh presells to do those most of the time look at Darrins cocktail interest thread warlords has very little art especailly when comnparing it to something like ICB.

pinball backglass are alittle smaller 25x25 average Im guessing
whats the dimsion of ICB?
Id imagine the shipping would be more than what you see on those other pin repros just beacuse of the size.
but somewheres in the 250-3 hundred range is probably about right for mpst of those repros
and once you had artwork print ready and maybe a min of 25 preorders

Wait until you see the halftone clouds in the art. Whoever screens them really needs an original in their possession to refer too.
Ya, I saw your pics but I'm sure I can successfully reproduce the halftones.

Anyway, my cup is always half full. If it wasn't, I wouldn't be able to earn a living as a self-employed graphic designer/artist.

Naysayers be damned! :)

Not saying it can't be done (wasn't trying to sound like a Naysayer)... Just going to be a challenge to make those halftones look right. You can most likely use a "metallic" gold.

I'd love to see this happen. Would be very beneficial if you can gain access to an original glass so you can scan those halftones in at 600 DPI and maybe you could use some vector with some raster in order to keep the halftones close to the original.

Rich can always use mine as a reference if this project goes anywhere. Hate to be negative but it seems like an unlikely project to me even though my glass is definitely not perfect.

While I'm at it, I might as well state that I want to join in on the side art but mine is pretty good and I'm not a big side art guy since side art is usually not visible in my game room anyway. I'm very interested in the cpo though. And if Rich needs my cp for reference he knows where to find me. :D

Just FYI, Shay quoted me 5K to produce a custom repro backglass for one of my EM gun games... please don't underestimate the work/cost that goes into a project like this.

The Warlords glass is awesome, but it is three colors with very simple graphics...

ICB is seven colors including metallic ink and complex graphics with halftones. No offense, but expecting to pay $200 is crazy.

I understand very well the work/cost that goes into these projects. I've been using CorelDraw since it came loaded on floppies and I sold several lines of my own screen-printed tees from my late teens to early 20's (15+ years ago). Screens are just graphics separated by color. Maybe I should just look up my old screen-printer ...

*sigh*

... or maybe it is crazy talk. I'll just finish up the Zaxxon sideart and forget about ICB.

Btw, Warlords is at least 4 screens since you need to include black as the base; I just double-checked my CT. I'm not certain if white is used under the other colors.
