so, the bars on my ICB occasionally stick on the up and down bars and aren't as smooth as they should be, and stick a little. i used a little wd40 before but it didn't really last long.

anyways - the manual calls for silicone spray, so i got some. should i use that to also lube the telescoping rod that the ball rides on too?

secondly, on each end of the telescoping bar where it connects to the cable assembly there are those little pads that serve as a buffer and contact the playfield when the bar moves up and down. i can't tell if that is sticking, but there are vertical marks on the left side of the playfield consistent with that pad indicaticating that the pad may be rubbing against it and also hanging it up.

any tips on that? i use mil wax i think on pinball machines, is it a good idea to just put a few coats of that on the playfield to help the bar move smoother?

Top 5 thread title right here. There's a porn joke in there somewhere, I'm just too tired to find it.

OK here you go, I'll bite.

"with a sufficient amount of ice cold beer, you shouldn't need lubrication"

sorry - serious question here I know

I would think the silicone lubricant would work.

I used white lithium grease, it has worked great.....

I'd use this to lube it up....ah yeah! :D

When I was rebuilding mine, I cleaned the back of those white pads off (there was some build-up on there) and greased the rod with a LITTLE bit of gun grease. JUST a little... if you use too much then it will ooze out, the ball will roll in it and it'll end up on your playfield.

As for the pinball wax, yeah. Go for it... couldn't hurt.

Remember, WD-40 isn't a lubricant... actually the opposite. Stick with the silicone grease.

I used the silicone spray on the rod - the manual mentions covering the playfield with wax paper to keep it clean.

it seemed to me that the scarring on the playfield from the white pads is due to bad assembly - if the bands are connected wrong, the pads are pulled against the playfield and the scraping can't be good at all. When i had everything cleaned and properly assembled the pads stayed away from the playfield.

related to the pads - make sure the back side of the metal guide on the back of the playfield is compeltely clean. In my case, the previous owner thought the metal clamp attached to the band was supposed to slide easily on the metal. of couse the lube turned to putty and slowed the movement while also pulling the pad against the playfield. As far as i can tell the metal on the back of the playfield should never be touching the band clamp.

got it all set. cleaned the rods on each side and was suprised at the grime that came off of it even though it looked clean. lubed the rods and bars with silicon and a drop of marvel mystery oil and they're nice now. turns out the left side bushing was rubbing against the playfield because the rivet that holds the rod to is was loose. compressed that with a pair of pliers to tighten it and it runs like a champ now.
