Not trying to re-invent the wheel but curious how others have wired up service / test switches or buttons. I have one wire in my JAMMA harness that lets me enter the service screen (wire grounded on boot up) but can not advance through the menu. I do not see a "test" wire coming off the JAMMA connector or it indicated on my harness. I am assuming this is the one I need and missing.

Flipping the dip switch is kind of a PITA and the documentation is pretty weak. Overall the games look pretty good. I just totally re-capped the entire chassis & neck board and have it tweaked in right now.

Now to mod my control panel for my trackball or just order one already cut out.

Here is a link to a jamma pinout.

Yea you need to have both test and service hooked up to navigate the menu except on the one i currently have, for some reason it uses button 2 and button 3.It is the first one i have had that has done this.
Your not far from me,if you need a wire to fit your harness let me know,i have a handful.or maybe you can steal a wire from say coin 2 and move it to the service position.

Did you use momentary contact switches / buttons or a toggle & momentary?
It should be simple enough to wire up when I get the chance.

I use whatever i have handy at the time.Either 2 small momentary push buttons or a toggle switch.I prefer the toggle switch where you throw it one way and it stays ,i wire that to test and the other way is momentary , i wire that to service either mounted to a bracket on the coin door or just inside the coin door opening.

Well I tried it using loose wires to ground and service and test both work.
Now to look in the parts box for a couple small switches.

Thanks for the info.

If this is your own game and not in a commercial setting, the easiest way to wire these up is the way I do it for my customers:

1) My control panel layout usually consists of a joystick, 2 action buttons (S1 and S2) sometimes on both sides of the joystick, and 2 start buttons.

2) I connect the TEST wire to the S2 button switch along with the S2 wire.

3) I connect the SERVICE wire to the Player 2 Start button switch along with the P2Start wire.

Now I can enter either the TEST or SERVICE menu simply by holding down either the S2 or P2 button while I power up. I can then navigate the menu by using S2 to go forward, P2 to go back, S1 to make changes, and P1 to save. The joystick is used to move among selections.

This makes it very easy to get into the menu without having to open the coin door or move the game away from the wall. Neither the TEST or SERVICE wiring interferes with the gameplay of the games.

If you try to do this on a non-free-play game, the P2 button with the SERVICE wire attached will add credits when it is pushed, so you shouldn't connect it to the control panel. You could connect it to a coin switch if you want...
