I have a Pocket Programmer III USB for programming eproms, but I need something to test other ic's such as logic ic's and ram. What do you guys use?

I'm in the same boat. I have been looking at a Wellon VP-280. Curious to hear what other people have to say on the subject.

I test logic ICs in situ using a DMM (checking for shorts) or logic probe (looking for pins not acting as expected). I don't have any stand-alone logic comparitor or other specialized equipment.

For RAM I'm at the mercy of any built-in RAM testing routines in the game test mode code. Those with a Fluke 9010A or similar can actually test the RAM in situ.

I use a Wellon VP-280 and am very happy with it, however it doesnt do many DRAMs and a few early SRAMs are missing from its support list too.

Quite happy with my 280, though it also does not support the 2708, though few burners do, and most people won't need this functionality anyway.

The HP 10529a logic comparator pretty useful for testing logic ICs, especially if you have a lot of the same type of device to test. Mine was an impulse purchase because I found one for cheap, but I actually do use it quite often.

My EETools TopMax EPROM programmer has a chip test function that's come in handy many times. It can test most common logic chips, as well as common DRAMs and SRAMs. Unfortunately, it *can't* test 4116's, nor can it test 2114's.
