IC positioning in a larger socket - which end do I place the IC?

Hi,

I just got a lot of 5 boards. One of them is a JAMMA Namco board, but that's as much as I know atm. I want to throw it into my JAMMA machine, but there is a board with an IC on it that needs to attach to the main pcb. Here's the dilemma, the socket has 48 pins and the board has 42. Does this get inserted at pin 1 leaving 22 through 27 empty or does it push to the bottom leaving 1 through 3 and 46 through 48 empty?

Thanks,

Tom

I'd guess that you need to align pin one. Pics?

here ya go.

Im guessing you have a mspac/galaga reunion board there. Is it a red PCB? If I remember right the empty space will be on the notch end.

Well, placing the ic away from the notch was correct, unfortunately it wasnt the galaga/mspac board :/ It is a Tekken 2 ver b. board. when I first turn it on, I get a disclaimer that says this board is to be used exclusively in Japan, and violators blah blah blah.. I guess this means I'm an outlaw? , that being said, all the titles, names and instructions are in english..go figure.
