It started today... I was searching eBay looking for anything interesting.

I came across this PCB board and didn't know what it was:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ARCADE-GAME-BOARD-MODEL-1902-GAME-NO-1369-1-/280537566217

(a Pong clone?)

Then I was thinking how nice it might be to have a tool to try and identify, say...that random early Exidy board. Or to simply view the styles of one manufacturer vs. another or over time.

This site has a decent number of PCB images tied to records but (previously) no way to sort them.

So I wrote a little module tonight that shows you a photo box of PCB images which you can filter by manufacturer or by year. Click on a image to see a larger version of it.

Let me know if these modules are the kind of thing you find useful or not...

Maybe someday we can have add # of chips on a board to the database and then if you have a random old TTL board with say 63 ICs on it, you can search for just the boards that match. But then again.how often do you find unidentified boards...

You must be logged in (forum login should suffice) or the page will boot you...

Now we just need a lot more PCB images...

Sweet!

I think this is an excellent idea not only for aiding in pcb identification but archiving this info that is becoming harder and harder to find.

Well I was cleaning house last night and shelved all my boards. Next step was to take photos and tag them all. When I do that, does someone want my pics? I plan on taking fronts and backs of each board in high res. Let me know if I need something else besides the front & back.

That PCB looks a lot like another one I have for a game thats actually listed on KLOV, and yeah its just a pong game I believe. I think the company was called 4Play or Foreplay or something like that. There's a wierd 4P logo on it.

Love the idea. Think it would be a great addition.

On the board..I think I have a few of those. I want to say mine have "TV Poker" or something Silk Screened on them.

Now I'm in! :)

For those unidentifiable boards, chip count is a good idea. Maybe also be able to filter by the number of boards in the stack/cage, and by the X-Y dimensions of the largest board in inches?

Also maybe indicate if its a boot, and if the boardset is verified complete (no chips missing, etc). It would be good to be able to compare auction photos with these photos to get an idea if there's a good chance the board would work before buying it.

ROM part numbers / identifier tags for those boardsets that can do ROM swaps to run different games.

I like,

I like, possible to do a list by game name as well?
And if we do pics who would we send them to to assist in the album!
Friggin awesome idea !

I have a bunch of odd-ball pcbs as well. I'd be willing to take photos, just need to know what format, perspective, size, etc. just let me know.

While this sounds good why ask for more pictures that won't get used? What about all the game listings with no cab pic or screenshots or much of anything? I thought that there was an effort to start updating things and you had even asked for people to check over submissions, what happened with all those pics and info?

You can upload PCB submissions now. Go to a game page, click on submit an image, and click 'PCB' as the type. It really helps to be logged in first, and the board should fill the photo frame as much as possible. The main thing it is missing are some instructions (like the higher resolution the better, and please don't have a lot of extraneous stuff in the photo--crop them decently well please).

Some other ideas in this thread were interesting, like board size...

Regarding updating things here. The progress continues. We are caught up with new game entries--a monumental task. We also added extra entries we found ourselves, adding a total of over 5,000 new entries since the first of the year.

As far as photos, we've gone through over 1200 of them in the month of July alone... You can see a list of the most recent 20 games that got 1 or more photos added on the bottom left of the home page, but only if you are logged in.

And Youtube videos on game pages, which started in February, is up to 779 entries as of tonight and continues to grow.

For lack of a better place to put it at the moment, I added a link to the PCB report page at the bottom of the 'Search' page on the site. There a bunch of tech related new features coming. We almost need a 'Tech' entry added to the top menu nav bar. Unfortunately the nav bar is really out of room and I've resisted bringing simple drop-downs to it...

A couple changes to the PCB Photo Box tonight.

1) In addition to selecting Years, now you can select a whole Decade
2) You can bring up PCB photos by letter.
3) And I'm testing IC count, that is search for boards based on how many ICs and sockets there are a game's largest board (count >= 8 pin, so even a 555 will count). There are 4 test records added tonight with ic counts...

Count 82 chips on your board? Maybe it is a 'Gotcha'...

Check it out (logged in only)

http://www.arcade-museum.com/pcb_list.php?ic=82

And please go to individual game pages and upload pcb images. Soon I'll give people a way to mark how many chips are on a game's boards...

Now there aren't main games where multiple runs of the same game where made with different chip counts, were there?
