... but that would have stunk up the shop.

The box from Ed showed up yesterday with some pieces for the power supply. Put that together and it tested ok. Put new try-farkin terminals in the connectors and plugged it in.

Cleaned the battery spew off of the mpu brackets. Programmed a couple of 2732s and put them in a mpu that isn't rotten. Put it in the game and it boots.

Start a game and player 1 display has credits. Wiggle coin door wiring and reboot. Displays normal. Flippers dead. Relay not activating. hmm.

Try another driver board. Flippers dead. Relay not activating. Huh??? It worked in the other game, dammit. Scratch head and look at schematic. Flipper relay is a special circuit. Check for and find continuity in wiring to mpu.

Try another driver board. Flippers dead. Relay not activating. Drop target coil locks on. Dammit. Thought that board was good. Replace the transistor. DT coil still on. Replace the 3081 chip and DT coil behaves.

Grounding the driver transistor tabs would activate coils - except for the flipper relay.

Solenoid test would activate all coils except flipper relay.

Scratch head and look at schematic some more. Flipper relay is a special circuit. Check for solenoid voltage to relay coil. Nope. No solenoid power to driver board. Goddam IDC connector. Wire not engaged to terminal.

Time to order some connectors. I can fix some sloppy light sockets while I'm waiting.

Dammit.

Hang in there--FS is a fun game and it'll come to life someday. I just played one on location 2 days ago--hadn't really played it much since wa-a-a-ay back in the day when it came out. Did pretty well too: turned it over (on 5-ball). But, the high score didn't recognize the 1M. :( Is there a 7-digit conversion for this, like some of the classic Sterns?

.... Is there a 7-digit conversion for this, like some of the classic Sterns?

I have the rom file but not the spare set of 7 digit displays. oh well. The challenge is getting as close to 999,990 as possible without going over.

Anyhow, poking the wire into the connector with a small pointy tool got the flippers working. I still need to fix a couple light sockets. The p/f got a nice coat of wax. It would play if it had some rubber. That should be showing up pretty quick.

dammit again.

Went to the Post Office and there was a box from a major online pinball retailer that shall remain anonymous. It contained the bits that I ordered, except that the rubber ring set had morphed into a ring set for some other game - doesn't even have the right flipper rubbers.

Dammit.

The right rubber set showed up. Yay! No mini-post rubbers. wtf? Good thing I had some.

Played a few games - seems to work ok.

Broke a drop target.

Dammit.

I don't know who put it there and I really don't care but the tag could be found amusing and so it will probably disappear quickly.
