Duke Nukem complicates the situation enormously since it was designed around being able to mouselook (yes, I know there are hacks to be able to add it to Doom).

You'd probably get a better reception for the project here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/

damn i love all of that quake -quake3 all the duke nuk. games i have all the quakes and duke nuk 3d for my pc :) still play them from time to time would be cool to see how this goes

Quake TE was a custom deal that idsoftware did for arcade installs. I don't think it played very well with the track balls and the mice were just not durable enough to withstand arcade enviroments.

I worked on Quake 2 through activision and my name scrolls in the in game credits.

Neat idea, but man...that seems so painfully awkward to play. At least it is DOOM SP, where you can crawl around at whatever pace you need to.

Quake Arcade, on the other hand. That was awkward x2 when I saw it waaaay back in the days. Fast-as-fuck MP FPS with a trackball seems really sadistic.

I'd say the way to do it would be to have the WASD controls but have a motion-tracking light gun for shooting and looking. In a perfect world of course.

I bet "War: Final Assault" would be the absolute best candidate cabinet for a nice dedicated, custom Doom game. It would be sad to see one cannibalized though unless the new cabinet arts were made superior.

I may have a copy of the game files still ... runs on Windows ;)

Share please! (I see preliminary in MAME...why would they emulate it directly if it runs on Windows? Put in a compat layer, and be done with it)

Edit: NM, I'll grab the MAME CHD and extract it.

Too bad, replacing the EXE with a standard GLQuake one and using a Glide wrapper doesn't work. It says "Starting Quake",goes fullscreen and black for a minute then just exits.
Guess we'll have to wait until the MAME team cracks the Security or emulates the dongle if they have access to one.

Oh hi Quake Arcade Tournament machine...

Playing around with GLQuake revisions and video drivers to get it working. Don't know if I will, but having fun trying!

Doubt I will since I think QEMU emulates a Cirrus Logic GD5446, 2D only. I'll probably dump the image to VMDK and try VMWare Player with 3D acelleration and use a Glide Wrapper.
