Lets just say that I acquired my first arcade game yesterday and I wanted to share my experience. Ive had a royal rumble pinball for about seven years and really enjoy it but a couple of months ago I found this site and started reading and getting an itch to get an old arcade game. I first wanted to get a Dragon's Lair but soon found out that is tough and very expensive so I set my sights on a Operation Wolf which i enjoyed playing back when I was a teenager. After several weeks I found one to buy about 4 hours away and convinced my wife that it was ok for me to get it and not think I was nuts.(not) After a harrowing trip in the rain through most of ohio yesterday my son and I returned with Operation Wolf. I plugged it in and started playing and then opened up the back and cleaned the monitor, mirror and bezel glass and it looked really good. My neighbor's kids, my kids and my wife all played it and it was awesome. After they had all played it I continued to clean the sides and vacuum the inside and then started playing some more and as it got darker in the garage as the sun went down(keeping it in the garage til i get it ready to put in basement) I felt like I was back in the old arcade back in the day and thats when I realized what everybody on here is talking about when they talk about the
Madness. What a cool feeling and well worth the trip, the looks from my wife and mom, and the greenbacks spent on it. I have to give credit to this site and everyone who posts on here for motivating me to do this and being an invaluable source of information for a novice like me. Sorry about the length but I just wanted to share this.

awesome it's good to keep all the crazies in one spot! fyi just DONT say you keep it on 24/7 im taking a beating on that topic (lol).

Congrats

Congrats! It's exciting to have that first old purchase. I was in the same boat... Had an old pin for a while, and console games, but got the itch. Thought 2 would be fine... Then 3... Now I'm looking again...

Glad you got it, and my best wishes that you stop there (unless free space stops you first).

Sean

yup

Yup, I know how you feel, I still remember getting my Smash TV and plugging that sucker in to play it. And finally being able to 'beat' it without spending a month's allowance!

Only advise I can give that's worth while is don't go overboard really fast. Think about what you would really want and play and make a list if you wanted to get more games. I would just buy whatever I could get my hands on and now that I started getting the stuff I really wanted I don't have that much room for them. Got about 5 games that need to just go few are just empty cabinets.

I would also suggest getting a JAMMA cabinet and you can buy lots of boards that don't take up space and play them all in one cabinet. (or a Neo Geo cabinet same concept)

Also, get to know your local KLOV'ers. The ones around here are some of the nicest folks I've ever known. Also, get to know (the real) Bob Roberts site, unless your game has been overhauled, you'll need to get some parts.

I still remembered when I got my Centipede. I would just stare at it and I could really imagine I was in a bowling alley, or pizzaria, or my old arcade. It didn't matter that it wasn't even working at that point! Good times, great post. I also liked Operation Wolf along with Mechanized Attack.

That's about right, lol. Welcome to the club LB, I freshly know that feeling of the "start", for me it was back in Feb./March of this year. Same thing, thinking I'll get two or three games and call it good. Since thinking that, I've acquired 5 more games, sold one off, selling two more, and sold off a GT2005 package I wasn't using. And gaining my first pinball in a couple of weeks. Once it starts, it never stops, ever, it seems. There's always something that pops up, that you will rearrange/sell for, at least that's what I've found out :)

I've still yet to be able to experience that, but if I ever get my hands on a Defender, Galaga, or Missile Command...I know i will. Good deal on getting your game and everyone is enjoying it!

Its neat and weired isnt it?

Its not just a game really. Its like a fricking time machine.. Play that old game you remember so well and all of a sudden your back there, back in time.

Glad to hear klov snagged another victim lol. Your hooked for life now man!

The next step in the "madness" is fixing a game that breaks or is bought broke. That is what has kept my interest.

Once you bring a monitor back to life or fix something else that keeps a game from working really gives a feeling of accomplishment.

Next thing you know, you've got a bunch of parts and feel like superman.

Congrats on the find. Keep the game in the garage and make it a garcade like mine! much easier to bring more games in that way!

I thought I was out once, sold off most of my games due to divorce..

New GF, soon to be wife on Sunday, said "I support your hobbies!".

30 games later she still hasn't complained, even after taking a back door to the head off a lift gate from a Konami 3 player cab!

You get dragged back eventually.

Ouch!

I hear ya on that one.

There's an old country song that goes "Ain't it funny how a melody, can bring back a memory?"

it's the same thing with some of these games. Really makes things like they used to be, melts away the years!
