I tried a new method to remove Mylar glue ,works great!!!! video

I found a post about using flour and isp alcohol to remove mylar adhesive, I was using goo gone and rags, and it was taking forever, so I fugured what the hell, cheap if nothing else. Now I know this makes no sense, but it works, success!!

I made a video for you all, hope this helps you, now back to my Earthshaker!!

It's a strange but pretty good way to get adhesive off. Ive used it before and find it to be about as effective as goo gone but without the oily goo residue which is a benefit.

Wow, thats great, thanks for sharing. I have a Big Guns I'm restoring with a lot of mylar that needs to be removed. I've been dreading pulling it but I'm going to give this method a try.

I have an Earthshaker I'm thinking about pulling the mylar on now.

Little worried as I haven't done it before, and some of the inserts have mylar bubbling on them.

They feel weird when I put my finger on the bubble, almost like the insert is worn under the bubble. Is this possible that the insert wore underneath the mylar bubble?

Mylar on inserts causes weird things to happen. Seems like the adhesive can pull at the first layer of the insert or something. Not sure what causes it.

Regardless, pull that Mylar. Once you start pulling mylar, you'll never look back.

I pulled the smaller mylar area by the pop bumpers a day or two ago on my Earthshaker.

Overall it looks sweet underneath, but the insert does have an issue that appears deeper than just the text on the insert. It seems like a small portion of the top layer of the insert came up with it as it was a bubble in the mylar.

Any suggestions on how to repair it before I put a decal over it? I seem to recall seeing Clay use really thin super glue to level out inserts before, but I don't recall what TOP that was on.

BTW, I used this flour/Alcohol method.

Overall I like that method. My adhesive was a little more stubborn and I ended up with blisters on my fingers from rubbing, so I started to look for something that would act similar to my finger.

Ended up using some big erasers and that seemed to work well.

I think it was covered in the WPC video. It was the same one where he set Norm's TZ playfield on fire. Incidentally, that was a spur of the moment thing he did, Norm didn't know about it until he saw the flames!

Maybe you could probably put some clearcoat or even clean nail polish on the insert to fill the small 'hole'...If you put an insert decal on it and its uneven, it wont look very good

Mine did that too, when the bubbles in the mylar form the adhesive hardens taking the screened inserts with it. One repair method is to remove the inserts, wetsand the inserts, then apply the replacement decals, I thought that was much for mine so I touched mine up and it looks pretty good, lots of the black outlines were bad so I touched them up and it looks pretty good..

This is a cool trick!

Mainly replying to this so I can easily find it later. I have a nice Marilyn Taxi with Mylar. Want to remove it and get it clearcoated after I'm totally done with my Pinbot.
