I Think My Son Will Actually Carry On My Arcade Legacy

I can't even mention 'going downstairs' without my 2 year old (next month) son saying "play my games!!" or "Tunes!!" If I am on KLOV, and he walks up to me, all he has to see is the little Asteroids machine near the KLOV logo and he immediately screams "My Game!". His love for these machines makes me smile. He played his first games of Mario Bros today and I wanted to get a picture of him and I near the machine to commemorate the event. Now I can pull it out and show it to him in 20 years to remind him that he once thought his daddy was cool.

Very cool.

My guy (also 2 next month) tries to play Donkey Kong, but mostly just pulls down on the joystick. We're working on it.

His favorite thing to do is put quarters in the machine.

A proud moment for a father...

I would say you will have to pull it out in more like 14-16 years, rather than 20... usually by the time they're 22 they have gotten over the whole "my parents aren't cool" thing.

Yeah, that's Layne's strategy on Mario Bros as well. Pull both sticks back and forth in co-op mode until one of them is killed, then the other. Repeat.

Probably true. Let's make it 15.

too cute...... He looks a lot like you.

Yeah he really is a sweet little guy and he does look a lot like me, I'm told. My daughter used to love all of these machines indiscriminately as well, but now she just sticks to Millipede and PigOut. I can barely get her to come down there if those 2 games aren't turned on. He likes them all, but his favorites are Qbert, Primal Rage, World Class Bowling and Centipede. He also tried his hand at Berzerk and Moon Patrol, but quickly tired of both. He'll actually beg to play Galaxian when he sees it, so there is that.

My 10 year old has already figured out that I'm not cool. They still like the games but they don't get excited by them like they used to. They keep begging for consoles or an iPod Touch. Errrrr.

My 3 year old daughter loves our games. One of her friends came over the other day, and I was dragged down into the gameroom, with Miya going. Daddy, Carolyn and I want to play pinball, Can you turn them on. The 2 of the together did pretty good On demolition man. Thank goodness I turned off the swear roms that I was showing Carolyn's father.

Most days she is like daddy I want to play arkanoid, or can I play klax. She tends to do better at pinball since that is button mashing for her, but can sometimes do ok at arkanoid. Klax is the hit both player buttons and then pull down on both sticks :)

Oh yeah Awesome picture, got to teach them young...

Ah man. That's awesome. I love my daughter, but am also looking forward to my little man in couple months.

FYI, I love the angle of this shot.

He'll always think you're cool Phet. Him and his buddies are going to want to play in "Dads" arcade because it is friggin awesome....when they're 8, 12, 16, and beyond....

Yeah we were shooting some shots for your book last night and he just couldn't stay away. I finally picked him up and he was in heaven, immediately mugging for the camera. He begged to play the game last night, but it was past his bedtime, so I made him wait until this morning.

That pic is beyond awesome. Count your blessings every day, my friend.

Thanks Linds, and believe me, I do. He loves the 'cade as much or more than I do. You should see him on the (one) pinball machine. He actually yells at it when the ball drains.

My 2 year old daughter calls my games Fwoggy (Frogger) and Vroom (Championship Sprint). If I open the closet with the step stool in it, she gets excited knowing it's time to play games.
