After looking over some pictures of similar machines, I realized that mine is most likely busted...am I right? Shouldn't part of this cover the unsightly gouged out section of the playfield?

That looks like an old game with a manual ball lift.
The shooter gauge is to give you a reference on how much force you will be hitting the ball with for the skill shot, or to try and hit the wanted rollover. The unsightly section of the playfield where the paint has worn off, is where the ball lands after it has been pushed up from the trough. After 40-50 years, those balls have worn off the paint. The shooter gauge will be below that so you can see the tip of the shooter rod through the slot in the gauge, there should be no playfield below that part of the shooter gauge.

Yeah, It is a 70 year old game, and I know what it's for but I think there was another half of it at the top and it looks snapped off. If you look at other Baker Novelty games the shooter guage has a round emblam up top.

Yes the MFG does help.

These look more like yours, but are longer.

Looks like you are missing the upper part of the gauge that deflects the ball onto the shooter lane.

This looks to be a larger version, but is not your design since the baker logo is not to the left of the shooter gauge on this style.

Try posting on Yahoo group, "empinbalmachines" those guys are more into the older machines and may have a line on parts for that machine.

Good Luck.

Mike

@coinopguy - I saw that before but I'd prefer to have an original one...and also I don't want to deal with Steve. I've called him multiple times and each time he was a dick to me, and he also isn't responding to an email I placed regarding a small order.

I understand. I have talked to Steve in person, and understand he can be a bit, shall we say, abrasive. Good luck on your search.
