Playing my Avalanche lastnight when the grahpics disappeared of the screen and it only showed a buch of dots, won't even coin up. Where to start tracking down the problem, there is still 5v reaching the board.

if the board is still getting power to it I'd take all the socketed chips out clean them and put them back and also clean the edge connector

There is only 1 socketed chip on the board and it's the microprocessor so I will give it a try and clean the edge connecter, what is the best way to clean the edge connector?

Tried to re-seat the microprocessor and clean the edage connector with no luck, used my probe to make sure that the board is pulsing and that is all okay. Non- of the ic's seem to be getting hot so I don't think they have shorted out. I am stumped.

Turned on the game and let it run for a bit to see if any of the ics got hot but non did but after being on for about 10min I could smell something cooking I am just not sure what it was, even after the burning smell all the ics seem okay so I am hoping maybe it's a resistor or transistor which would be easier to deal with. Gonna let the board run for a bit again and hopefully be able to track down the buring smell.

Found out what the burning smell was the trace from the rf shield board for the video ground burnt up, not sure why I assume there is a ground short somewhere could that cause my board to be dead?

Not sure but I'd say it's possible. I had a short in the coin doors of both defender and tron and had these cause damage to the main board sets.
