Hi everyone... I know that I don't participate in the forums often mainly because I have only one arcade game compared to the vast amount you all have... but I would like to share with you this historic day.
You see, I was one of the early adopters of the PS3... meaning basically that I have an original "fat" 60 GB unit that has PS2 backwards compatibility, four USB ports and the Chrome. Aside from that, there is one more thing unique about my unit: I haven't updated it in five years!
That's right, I'm still running firmware version 2.36. I used to do weekly updates on it as required, but the day 2.37 came out, I had what you might call a premonition that I just shouldn't update; and as some of you may recall that's when the whole "bricking debacle" started.
Everything on the unit works fine still, but recently there have been games released on the PSN that I have wanted to try; like Turtles In Time ReShelled, and SSF2 Turbo HD.
I had convinced myself that these games aren't worth risking my console for, and the ability to run Linux on it is nice. However, the catalyst for me was when I was recently given some new Blu-Ray movies as a gift; one of which being the Tron Legacy 5 Disc collectible which I was almost salivating to watch in 3D.
I excitedly pop it into my PS3 and receive the following message:
So I have come to the realization that the longer I do not update, the more my PS3 becomes a $600 paper-weight. And although playing PS2 Tekken Tag tournament is nice, it won't last forever.
So I have come to the conclusion that today is the day I will finally reconnect my unit to the internet and go "all-in" on the latest software update
If it works, I have a bunch of new games and movies to enjoy! And if it doesn't, you'll find the games and movies on eBay shortly!
Someone suggested that I could sell the unit as a bundle, but nobody would pay the price I would have to ask for to recoup the $$$ I've dumped into it with accessories and stuff.
So here goes...

To play this BD, you must renew the encryption key. Perform a system software update to renew the encryption key
