So we have a multicade here at work and I have been playing allot of Gyruss lately. I played the game way back in 86 and never came across another working on since then. fast forward to now and the game is really growing on me. Today I managed to get to stage 9 and scored 61,400 points. I'm sure that score is pretty low to most or all here who own one. How many stages does the game have, and does it have an actual ending?

I've owned one for about a dozen years now. My high score is 213K, not too bad, but there's others here that are really great players. I'm guessing the game loops around forever. I don't think there's an end.

Nope. No ending.

Neptune - Uranus - Saturn - Jupiter - Mars - Earth

Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

No ending but after Earth, you get a 3 warps to Neptune screen rather than a 2 warps screen which is hella tougher than the other Neptunes. After that screen you get the initial entry music played and then it is a true cycling of the levels on the subsequent board where the speed cycles back as well (though enemies still fire more than on the 1st loop through). For awhile I was stuck around 600k or so but after tightening up a few leaks thanks to some help from another player, I can play indefinitely now. A bulk of it comes down to finding a method for each enemy entry sequence that works well for you that is repeatable.

Thanks for the info guys. On the original cabinet is the joy a two way? It's been awhile and I can't remember but right now I play using a four way. The game reminds me so much of Tempest that I always wondered how it would play using a spinner.

The game ranks as one of the 50 greatest arcade games of all time. But you need to play the dedi to know why. Superb.

gyruss and time pilot are same pin outs..alot of people install both boards and then just move over the harness.

Hmmmmmm, so in theory I could install a Gyruss board into a Time pilot cabinet needing nothing else? If so I know where a TP cabinet is and may have a new project on my hands.

Must be weird to play with a 4-way stick. Gyruss uses and 8-way stick.

I have a pretty decent cab in the garage, a working pcb and just about all the parts if you're interested. I also have a working gyruss down in the basement next to my Time Pilot. Gyruss is one of my all time favs. I think my hi score is around 246k. If you're ever in my neck of the woods, you're welcome to come check it out.

Gyruss is the best baby the best....I have always had one in my home arcade and when sold (for various reasons) I always bought another one. I have been playing for many years, and normally get to level 13 around 245,000 points. I am always trying for more, I love it, I play mine at home then go to the local arcade and get my name on the high scores board for it..Great Game!

What he said! Playing it in a dedicated cab will make you never want to play it on a 60 in 1. The sounds are way better in the original cab. It will blow your mind!!! Great game and a great looking cab.

I agree with the others, play it on a real cab and you will really be in love. One of my favorites when it was released and still one of my favorites.

gotta getta toccata

I gotta have one !!!!
Thankfully they are not super rare, but never one in my neck of the woods..
