i think i found a great way to get cigarette tar off the sides of a cabinet

ok....i havent been too active on these forums lately....but i have recently been struggling with the task of removing cigarette tar (yellowish brown residue) from the side of a machine......

people online have told me to use windex, car wax and lots of things.....

wesleys bleche white tire cleaner works but you have to be careful....well.......

i tried using hand sanitizer.....yes clear hand sanitizer and it is taking the residue off fantastically.......if anyone else tries this let me know if it works for you.....
its leaving the cabinet bright white again and NOT removing any paint while still leaving the original webbing spray on.....

hope this helps someone

I think different things work differently depending on what game cabinet your talking about. You can't use the same product on an old E.M cabinet as a painted Data East or Stern cabinet or a decaled B/W cabinet .

Hm true, I didn't realize at first he was referring to a stenciled pinball machine (right?). I was hoping to use on a Millipede with silked vinyl.

Great discovery!!!!!!!

I usually use MeanGreen or Westleys, but this is a great method and I will have to try it!

Windex and car wax, what? No way would those work!

ok....so.....today i was working on taking the cigarette tar off this machine. i used hand sanitizer yesterday and it was working...then i took into consideration what the first guy who responded said (kpkube) and i went and got a bottle of alcohol.....(like rubbing alcohol)....because i have plenty of normal drinking alcohol (haha) and i used that with a red towel like a car mechanic would use.....like a red grease rag except clean......and it is taking it off and makign the cabinet bright white underneath and still leaving the original black webbing spray on also. however this is going to take me FOREVER!!! i wonder if you could use this method with a car buffer? i am afraid to try it.....
the machine i am using this on is a 1973 chicago coin commando EM gun game the cabinet is painted on wih stencils......it has a HUGE cabinet and is very stained.....the pic i am attaching is of how the cabinet looks with it partially done ONLY with wesleys bleche white......i do not have a current pic of how it looks with the alcohol but i will get one in a day or so......but it is seriously coming out like bright nice and white and taking a long time to do so......a few beers later i started using a very very fine steel wool i obtain from a car detailing company and that was speeding things up........
hope this helps someone.....my cabinet was there and in great shape but just stained......i cant wait to finish this machine...i took it from not working to working on my own.....with the help of schematics from steve young. i will get more pics for everyone.....
