Just to tell a story. I've been having trouble with the old molex connector on the 4th player for awhile now. The Mutant power button on 4P would only work sometimes...so when you plug it in it was like Russian roulette. It would work or just not work at all(more often it would not work) and then one time I wiggled the wire and it kept going in and out. Since I haven't had enough party people over I got way lazy but decided that maybe cleaning the contact off was the solution but how to do it?

I poked the wire out of the connector with the smallest screwdriver in my PC toolkit and decided to use something similar to how I clean off NES game: Rubbing alcohol from the bathroom. I usually dilute this stuff alot before I use it on nintendo games but since the connector on the end of the wire had some say tarnish-type corrosion on it I just dipped the end for a few seconds and carefully dried it off. Then I put the wire back into the molex connector and left it to dry further for a week before I tested it tonight. The button was working without a hitch but with how random this is the next time I change the bord I could be back to square one...(I sure hope not)

If it acts up again you'd be better off replacing the pin and the socket with new ones. It's a little more hassle but it'll fix your problem for real.

Another solution that is not as good is to go to RadioShack and buy their little kit with DeOxit and DeOxit Gold (maybe $8-$10) and follow the directions to treat the offending pin.

I know I planned on replacing the pin that I cleaned if this doesn't turn into a permanent solution. The rest of the pins are fine but try just finding one pin connector...

Alcohol is always a good solution for cleaning dirty contacts. You don't need to wait a week, though, that's excessive. I just take a spraybottle of alcohol and spray it liberally at the edge of an NES cartridge, shake off the loose stuff, then jam it into the cartridge slot and turn it on right away.

You do not want to dilute the alcohol to clean the cartridge connectors, Water causes the rusting problems and the alcohol evaporates quickly. I use 91% or higher(when I can find them on sale) for my games for decades when I get a used game.

well with the carts I was following the directions form an old nintendo cleaning kit. In this case if you didn't understand I carefully pulled out one of the wires from a konami pin connector(Xmen, TMNT, ETC.) and cleaned it off in a similar way if you didn't understand.
