I screwed up....AKA: I thought NOS meant good condition

So I messed up. I bought a bezel from a KLOV'r that was listed as 'NOS' and when I received it, it was scratched up and had vertical adhesive residue on the back (as if it had been used) and a faint line/scratches around the bottom of it where the CP 'meets' it.

I was reassured that this was due to its years of poor packaging. So, regardless of whether or not it is indeed NOS, I'm learned a valuable lesson, NOS does not mean 'good condition'.

Like cars that fall off boats on the way to port, they are indeed NOS...But not in very usable condition...

Caveat Emptor right?

(BTW, I'm working with the KLOV'r to come up with a good resolution, despite not emailing me back for a couple of days, I'm sure we'll ultimately come to a good agreement).

Sounds like it's more like just "OS"...

That's pretty common knowledge, I hate to say. There were tons of threads on RGVAC on this back a few years. NOS + new old stock, or unused, original stuff. Decades of shelf life is not always kind to the part. Sometimes you get lucky, but always verify condition before sinking the $ into the purchase.

The only way to guarantee minty fresh is a good repro.

Hope it works out.

I had the same problem, got a NOS kit, the cp was completely rusted and the "NOS" original side art was a moldy..
lesson learned.

Thanks for the tip. Been keeping my eye out for some NOS stuff with the same assumption that NOS = "mint original".

Frankly, any seller selling NOS items that doesn't mention the condition of said NOS item prior to the sale if said NOS item is less than "stellar" is a BAD SELLER in my opinion and I wouldn't do business with them again. That's BS in my opinion. EVERYONE knows that when you're buying NOS, you're expecting something in NEW condition. Not everything that is NOS is in NEW CONDITION, but any self-respecting seller would point out the flaws in that case.

EDIT: Almost missed an opportunity to use one of my pix...

Clearly not common knowledge since many seem to have 'learned the hard way' (including myself)...But point taken. I should have been more specific in asking about condition.

Live and learn.

To be fair to the seller, he did post pics and even let me pick out the bezel...Issue is, its virtually impossible to see the scratches etc in the pictures. I was SHOCKED when I got it...

Perhaps learned knowledge then. I guess I just tend to do a lot of research if I'm not 100% sure about a topic/definition. Point to Frizz, the seller of NOS parts should certainly mention the flaws, instead of being sneaky.

Thanks for the heads up. I assumed New Old Stock, to mean it was in like new condition as well. Sounds like a pretty shady practice to pass of a pile of shit as something in good condition. By "shady practice" I mean "bullshit."

Here's what I learned recently. I learned you can't trust a photograph. This Pole Position II marquee looked perfectly fine in a photograph... fine enough for my to happily cough up $25.00 shipped for it....until I got it that is and back-lit it.

Once again, if the seller had been forthright with the condition of the item, I would not have bought it. The fact that when it's not backlit it's a LITTLE difficult to see the cracks is what kept me from unloading on the guy... that and the fact it was only $25.00...so I just blew it off and took it as lesson learned.

EDIT: As a matter of fact...I am attaching the image that was posted...looks perfect, eh?

I bought a Joust marquee from a member here and it had the protective paper still on the front...... peel off the paper and it looked like it was shot with hundreds of little pin holes when back lit

my lesson was learned, didnt bother even mentioning it to the seller
