Kind of a repost, but still would like some ideas...

My I, Robot stopped saving high scores. I replaced the X2212 chip, but still it will not save and switches to the default high score table after each power down and restart.

Also put in a new Quad Pokey with no change.

Any other ideas?

And I'm not sure if it's related, but I also get a message at each startup that the joystick is off center and to hit the fire button to correct it. When I do, it says that the joystick is excessively off center, but another hit of the fire button, and everything is then fine.

So again, anyone else have a hint as to where to look next? Or any similar experiences that you were able to figure out for the other Ataris that use the X2212 chip high score save system (like Star Wars, Quantum, Food Fight, etc.) that might point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Jon

Not sure how to fix your issue, so free bump.

If it gets to the point where it bothers you too much, you can bring it to my house and I will 'store' it for you ;)

this is a good article to read, he lays out how the nvarm works on i-roboto

Thanks...that was very helpful!

Interestingly, I have a modern 15A switching power supply installed in my IR already (that replaced the original Atari PS). This switch was done by a previous owner before I got the game, and it used to save the scores just fine. I did have to replace this 15A switcher with a new one a few years back when the replaced supply quit working itself, but again once I threw in the new one, everything was fine at that point.

After reading Jess's notes at the above link, I wonder if I have the +5V on the switcher adjusted too high and the game is holding at that higher level just long enough at power down to prevent the signal that tells the 2212 chip to write the new score data and save the joystick settings? I cranked it up awhile back to around +5.15 or so as the game seemed to run better at the higher voltage, but maybe I need to back it off a bit.

I'll give that a try tonight and see what happens :) .

Read through the article...very useful.

Here's my conundrum:

I found that the violet wire from the original wiring harness that is supposed to send the "reset" signal at power down which triggers the X2212 chip to write is cut in my harness (when the original owner installed the 15A power supply (to replace the original Atari PS that so often fails)).

But the board did save scores when I originally got the game and only stopped doing so somewhat recently. So it would seem that something else was allowing this function to continue but has now failed.

I can easily rehook the violet wire up, but the question is to what? Do I hook it to the +5V or +12V output from the 15A PS I have in there now? Is that what to do?

Anyone know? :)

I,Robot Not Saving High Scores

Hi

Did you manage to fix the problem in the end?

I've just recently encountered the same problem, and cutting out and replacing my NVram didn't fix this either...

I'm going to take another look.. but just in case this is a common fault and you have already found a solution.
