I, Robot #158 Restoration

Restored and reinstalled the coin door. Looks a helluva lot better than it did originally. Needs locks though.

The dents on the top coin door on the left are still there, I didn't try to hammer them out or anything, but they're definitely less noticeable now.

This morning, as I was preparing to put the coin mechs back in the game, I realized I'd never restored the hacks that the operator put on the coin door... So I undid those, added new mechs and bulbs, and put it back into the cabinet.

I also reinstalled the service panel and the front speakers and hooked them up to the harness.

The EMI cage is back in the cabinet
The wooden Partition is back in the cabinet
The Harness is fully installed and routed properly, using all the original mounting points in the cabinet.

The lights all turn on, the fan spins up, everything should be good to go, with the parts that I have...

I test fit the back doors of the cabinet, only to find that in the months that this thing has been sitting in my garage without any kind of climate control, the base plate that the pedestal sits on has begun to sag, which is sad and distressing :( Not as bad as the one @DLP had that required replacing the base of the cabinet... But still sad nonetheless. I think it'll be okay now that the back door is reinstalled and "supporting" it. At least I can hide the auxiliary power block down there.

Not a bad idea. I might do the same. I need to cut a piece of wood to serve as a head box backdoor anyway.

I plan to add a spine to mine under that rear point of the narrow vertical section to support it.
not to butt in, and I know you can't do this with a Firefox, but got a machine in the I Robot style that the base was broken in along where the sides are. What I ended up doing was re-building the box/base and adding this to the interior box for support, with the sides directly under the upper sides.

This is what I meant when I said spine, a board on edge under the rear part of the vertical part. Best attachment would be glued and screwed down from the top. (but would require patching)

Oak 1by2 would be best, but pine or poplar 1by would probably be sufficient. This would work on a fire fox while still allowing room for the LD player.

Alternatively you could forgo the screws from the top and install two kickers on each side of the spine.

This was sufficient for me. Seems level and flat now at the top. I did the same thing in my other Firefox cabinet. It's never going to have a LDP in there again, so it's fine.

Running out of things to do on it in the Garage and I want more space so, I moved I Robot into the game room today. It's far from perfect, and some of the cab (particularly the base) is noticeably rough to the touch.... But I think it passes the 10' test handily. In a darkened room, it'll look just fine.

While reading through your restore, (which is making me want to build one myself lol)
I discovered that this will be released soon on pretty much every platform…. Kinda cool to see a retro modern take. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2932910/I_Robot/
Lol yeah I saw that. I think it was the subject of a thread here on KLOV a little while back. I know that it's Jeff Minter so everything has to be bovine/llama based but man I'm disappointed that they didn't use the same pattern as the original unhappy interface droid #1984...

My machine was missing the monitor back door, so I cut a new one out of 3/4" hardwood. Not the cleanest, but definitely workable. Added some *extra* ventilation, to keep that Disco monitor hopefully nice and cool. Shown here test fitted on my extra Firefox Cabinet.
