I need a quick run down on the vs system basics. Changing games.

I just picked a red tent am in need of gradius & castlevania.
If I understand this correct you switch out roms along with Nintendo's version of slapstick?
Has anyone come out with modified ROMs so we can burn our own? Or do we have to stick to the original slap stick or decoder key? Does this ppu or whatever have a battery imbedded storing the code? Thanks guys I know hardly anything about the systems workings.

Gradius and Castlevania both require you to have a daughterboard. It is a computer board that actually plugs into the PPU and CPU slot on your Vs board.

The battery doesn't really do anything to my knowledge. I don't have a single battery in the 4 boards i have. Nintendo versions are different from the Vs versions so they are not interchangable. I have asked a few times, and the nintendo PPU ( being a sort of color "filter". The chip stores color information) is a proprietary chip that no one to my knowledge reproduces.

People can burn their own eproms with different games on them, but you will need to find the PPU that is associated with the game you want to play. I always use John's list when i need to know what games use the same PPU. It is as simple as changing 6 chips if you have the right PPU.
