I looked for the long lost Sega R360 game from my childhood for 14 months...

Yeah sorry I know its anti-climatic and it doesn't end with a great rescue of the game, but unfortunately that is the truth of what happened to it and there really wasn't a way to sugar coat it.

I know I was reading waiting to see where she got to play it one more time and bam :( .

Still cool you managed to track it like you did.

Interesting that you were able to find it after all of those years. I never played one or even saw it because by then I was out of the arcades.

I have information on 2 R360's that are in operation one that I just found out about a week or 2 ago. Both of them are in the country Estonia in Tartu and one is at the science center and one is at the aviation museum. These are the only 2 R360's I know of in operation and available to the public.

Be warned though the one at the science center is quite different from a normal R360 (If you are looking for the original I recommend the aviation museum in Estonia, seems that is the only place to have one running), I do not want to spoil it because I am saving this for another article, so you guys will have to hold off till I manage to write it.

I do not expect to ever see one operate in North America again, too much liability at this point and the game would be very difficult to operate since parts are all but non-existent for the game. The only way to fix one is to get another whole R360 and make one machine out of the 2, however even if you attempted that you might have the same parts gone on both and that is a problem, not to mention even finding 2 R360's to do this with. The last operating one I knew of in the states was at Smile's fun center in Connecticut around 2002.

What about the dude who had like 3 in Utah a few years ago? Was I dreaming that?

This is true, there is a person in Utah with a couple, you are not dreaming that. We are talking about operating machines that the public can play here. There are quite a few machines in the possession of various collectors, because of privacy I cannot talk about them here though.

It is also true the one in Japan you cannot control the motion of the cabinet, that is done for safety reasons and because the machine seats 2 people, and it would be weird if 2 people were trying to control the pod at the same time. I am happy Sega remade the R360 so people will not forget about it however I would like to see a single seat version where you can control the motion and one that could be shipped to arcades in the USA (though liability and insurance would still be a huge problem). I will probably never get to visit Japan to play the thing though. It seems some machines in China are made like this though (there are a lot of weird chinese made simulators out there), and there is the Fly motion simulator that I posted about a little while ago which is just like the R360 but not really shaped like it, but apparently there are no fly motion's in the USA at least that I can find.
