I like the new forum

I wonder if the forum could be set to fit the width of a monitor? I have a 1920x1080 and it's got huge space on the sides.. plenty of room to show a larger font size or something.

all of the shades of grey themes are dark themes with just basic color highlights

its too tiny... like others mentioned, you have 25% blank spaces on both sides. lame.

why not DARKen up the "vBulletin Transition A (Square Avatars) (by Greg)" theme instead - so its full width?

Shades of grey is AWESOME !!

Looks way better than the old forum . My eyes are thanking me .

Thanks! Yeah, I had a link in my signature block before — using the old THREAD tag to link to a restoration thread. The migration broke that old THREAD link so I was trying to fix it with a new URL link.

I'm not sure if anything changed, but I am now able to successfully insert a URL link to my signature. Thanks!

Tonight, I spent time catching up on the subforums I tend to frequent. So far as I know, I had been up to date with reading them around July 21-22.

Not so, thought the forum, and apparently the "last time I read" had been reset to July 1st. Not a big deal, but mildly annoying. Something having to do with the migration, I guess.

So I thought I'd open up the threads where I hadn't read up to the latest post. They'd appear in bold in the subforum index, and clicking the thread title in the index should dump me to the first unread post in the thread.

Wrong. That -only- worked on threads that were NEW, since the migration.

OLD threads that still had unread posts in them, it invariably set me to the very first post in the thread. Somehow, knowing which post had been the last one I'd read had not carried over in the import. I'm not sure if this could be fixed, but in any event it's too late now, at least for me, as I've caught up in the forums I normally read and those posts have been marked read.

Other things I noticed:

- There's an emoji code that some people have used. One of them claimed Tapatalk was to blame. Regardless of what's to blame, there's a bunch of "emoji markup" missing emojis. Here's an example: https://forums.arcade-museum.com/threads/grinkers-has-to-live-on.472649/post-4176499

- There's some posts that have a lot of broken images. They're definitely not so old where this might happen. I did a quick looking into this and it seem to be because they're using HTTP URLs on a forum that's defaulting to using HTTPS. At the very least you could try to load these images using HTTPS, but there's no guarantee the respective servers they are on offer that. There's probably a more elegant solution. Example post: https://forums.arcade-museum.com/threads/so-what-did-u-do-with-your-games-today.119839/post-4179428

And a suggestion regarding signatures:
Now, I have no signature, so I have no skin in the game, but there's some people out there linking to forum threads they created that are very useful to those in the community in their signature. And if signatures only appear in their first post in a different thread, people who could benefit from seeing their signature in random opportunities will have a much reduced chance of that happening.
So I would suggest that maybe instead of completely not showing a signature multiple times that instead it be hidden by a pop-down link, similar to the Spoilers button? Then the curious could still click to see, and those who have beneficial links in their signature can tell people to click the Signature link/button, rather than having to post their helpful link again or refer them to their first post in the thread (wherever that happens to be).

Are signatures no longer being displayed at all on mobile? That's what I'm seeing.

yes. sigs and a few other things do not show up on the mobile version of the site. It's meant to cut down on clutter.

You can change the font size on your browser end easily.

make sure you mark all forums read before you leave then start a new session later, it should clear up.

The emoji issue is a tapatalk issue. Might be best to just get rid of that markup.

the signature issue is just meant to keep the clutter down.

Looks like some of the editing functions have been turned-on, as yesterday I was able to edit a previous post. However, today I am not able to edit a post I made just this morning. Is this ability to edit dependent upon the particular section, thread, etc.?

check the other sticky from mclemore

I also seem to be having problems editing posts. The sticky post from @mclemore that @jacklick was referring to says:
Expanded Time Limits To Edit Posts - Upon opening of the new forums, there was a 5 minute time limit in order to edit a post made. This was expanded today. For all Non-For Sale Sections, one has 60 minutes to edit a post and 30 days to edit a thread title. In the Trading Post (For Sale) sub-sections, there is now a 30 day limit to edit a post and a 90 day limit to edit a thread title.

I'd like to edit the title of a post I made on Wednesday, but I don't seem to be able to do that. Per the above, I should have 30 days to edit a title thread, right?

It would be nice to show the last user that replied to a thread and have a page index on the top of the page as well as the bottom.
Other than that I'm getting used to it, I must be the only user to have preferred the older version on my phone/tablet.

So the link above didn't use a standard smilie or emoji... or even third party image hosting. Instead, much to my surprise, it is something different, and a lot more evil.

The link you quote above shows a non-existing reference. I went to the old vbulletin forums and looked at the exact same message and in the message was the text: [emoji2957]

However... the old vbulletin converts it to http://emoji.tapatalk-cdn.com/emoji2957.png
and shows up as a broken link. That link comes up with an access denied error.

Now I'm not upset that a reference to an emoji that is hosted on tapatalk... I'm used to them highjacking the user experience and hosting user photos already.

However, I'm angry that it looks like their plugin to support tapatalk users modified my vbulletin installation without permission to allow all users (even non-tapatalk users) to use unapproved emoji code that auto converted referenced into traffic to their site. Like cheap third party hosting, it just breaks some day. I also just looked in the vBulletin Tapatalk plugin settings and confirmed there were no options authorizing them to do this...

Via a Google search, I can see other forums that look like they dumped Tapatalk have the same problem, including in thread titles, like:

I see lots of posts by other forum operators complaining about this...

Now if it didn't reply with a permission denied, I could at least globally search and reply a decent equivalent...

Um... I thought once we were converted, I'd stop finding new reasons to hate Tapatalk...

Not quickly, but at some point I'll just strip the database of all tapatalk emoji references... The challenge is that I'll have to identify all the ones to strip.

Yes, you should be able to, but I know that no one can. The forums have a permission auditor to see if any of conflicting permissions are getting in the way. They aren't. Supposedly everyone should be able to edit the title as described. I opened a trouble ticket yesterday on the issue, but haven't received a helpful response yet.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but, when I do a keyword search or phrase, the word or phrase is not highlighted in a different color. This function made searching each post for the information I need easier. Is this a function that will be turned back on in the future?
