I KNOW you're the wrong group of folks to ask, but...

Umm…you would be moving into crazy cat lady territory only with arcade games instead of cats. Even Noice keeps his turtles in a separated garage. LOL

I have an idea...

Since you're just talking making a doorway through a closet, leave it as is and....WALK YOUR LAZY ASS TO THE SECOND ROOM! :p

Seriously though, do two different themed rooms or something. Got pins and vids? 1 type in each room, or do an age based theme(Classics/EM+SS in one room, newer games in the other).

pulling down the wall between office and arcade would not be that much work. I would guess $100 to knock it out and maybe $1000 to put it back(if you can do the work). I would say go for it.

If your thinking of doing more than that, then I think your making a mistake.

Because... Then it's not one giant arcade room! :D

Sure, you gain one giant room but you lose space for two (or more depending on opening size) games.

Do you remember FullThrottle's house cade pics? That was awesome to see back in the day. Your home could be the same...

Nothing that hasn't been said...make a doorway in one of those closet areas without destroying too much-if and when you ever need to sell your house buy a couple 2x4's and a sheet or two of drywall. Get a buddy & some beer & it'll be done in one weekend. If you're already thinking of selling the house I might caution against this move, but if you're going to be there for a while, go for it!

jahwn (spelled it right dont worry),

I think you are great. Your ideas are cool. Games are fun.

ps. more games
pps. hope this helps

Didnt he sell a bunch of shit in order to get pussy again?

Not exactly... He sold a bunch of crap because of a combination of burn out caused by other collectors being assholes, a desire to get back into another hobby (car restoration), and a search for pussy. Honestly, from my talks with him I think the order I presented these is the order of influence it made on his decision.

As far as I know there are still games in virtually every room of his house. There are fewer games, and you didn't have to crawl over things to see into the garage, but the housecade was still going strong last time I was there...

If you really want to join the two room together, I would make an opening not bigger than 4'x8'(the size of a sheet of sheetrock) where the arcade closet is and leave the closet in the office. The hallway wall should be the one that is the bearing wall so you should not have to worry about support. Very easy to remove and put back if you move. Just make sure that there's no ducts or electrical in the wall you are taking down.

This is good advice. worst case scenario you open up the arcade Closet, remove a stud or two, and you're gonna have to cut out a section of the bottom plate. Whatever you do make sure it's reversible for re-sale value.

do not remove any other closets

yup takwe the back wall out of the arcade closet. make it an archway..

later if it needs to go back rame up some sx4s drywall and viola its back to how it was.

I say tear out the arcade closet and make that your door. Then its just a matter of marketing if you ever decide to sell your house. Just say its a 2 master bedroom house except the NEW master bedroom has a monster walk in closet.

If you're going to do it, just get rid of all the closets on that side of the house, make it one big room. No door needed. Adding the closets back in won't take that much work, and you could probably just save the doors and other hardware for that time.

With that room, you're going to get between 25 - 30 games in there. Maybe more depending on size and how much room you give in front of each one.

What about a set of pocket doors between the living room and the arcade? It could be permanent yet still have 3 bedrooms and bigger than any door between the other 2 rooms.

...I am seriously considering converting my office into an arcade extension.

Obviously I am single.

Looking for legitimate advice, here. I know everyone's first instinct is simply "Do it! Do it!" but I already have 1 of my 3 bedrooms as an arcade, and am not sure if converting another one is the best idea. Especially since I'm considering taking out a closet between the two to have a walkway through.
  • The pros:
  • It's my house. I'm single. It would be awesome.
  • More room for games. Blacklights. Neon carpeting. You all know these perks. :D
  • Could still have friends crash/spend the night with an inflatable mattress or whatnot.
  • Could possibly combine with my "office" stuff in the same room, and just get room dividers or something if/when I throw arcade parties.
  • The cons:
  • Would this hinder a home sale if/when I ever move? Having 2 rooms adjoined? Or no biggie?
  • More money I don't have... For mirrors, games, lights...
Am I being stupid for even considering doing this? 2/3 of the bedrooms in my house as gamerooms?

Here's a quick top-view drawing of my house I made. (Roughly to scale, but didn't finish measuring the kitchen/laundry room) One of the 2 closets between the rooms would get axed for the walkway if I did this.

Whaddya think?

If you`re single , and dont want to build an extension , you need to make the office and master bedroom your arcade room/s , just knockout the wall in your master bedroom closet to join the 2 together , and sleep in the arcade room / bedroom .

When hot looking chicks come in , or anyone for that matter , you need to have the boys stuff out the way , so im assuming you come in at the top of the picture , near the Kitchen ? if so the arcade room is too close to the front anyway .

If you sell the house , let someone else bother about altering it , they might not like your layout anyway , in this case , if you want , you only have to put that wall back in .

that MBRM wall in the closet is only 1.5 meters or so .

I'll probably be single forever anyway...

But yeah, everyone knows it would be neat/cool, I just don't want to make a bonehead mistake if it's not in my best interest.

Women usually want to move into a new house, anyway...

If you find the right girl , that house will be temp .

There is plenty of room in that house to get her horny , she will take you for what you are , not what you have , the games reaqlly dont matter , just make sure you can close the gameroom door , so the house looks normal ,

I have put up an alteration idea as well , check it out . [ i spent some 18 years as a carpenter , building houses just like yours . ]
