I KNOW you're the wrong group of folks to ask, but...

+1 Billion I know I will be SINGLE for the rest of my life. And yes I say that as a good thing.

Andrew

I'll probably be single forever anyway...

But yeah, everyone knows it would be neat/cool, I just don't want to make a bonehead mistake if it's not in my best interest.

Women usually want to move into a new house, anyway...

I would probably just keep the rooms as they are, but change the usage. The living room would be the game room, the master would be the TV/ Theater room, then the other two would be for the office and bedroom.

I didnt notice the bric/plaster part. your interior walls are brick? Plaster mabye but brick would be odd. How old is the house?

Shakes head. Jawhn don't hire a handy man Just have an "Arcade / Help me put up wall party" provide Pizza and drinks. If you get enough guys Slapping up a wall should take an hour or two at most. Especially if you use fast drying paints and mud.

Built in 1951. Outside of entire house is red brick, interior walls are plaster/wood.

Pcolson: Interesting concept... Hmmm... I could definitely settle for a smaller bedroom. Although. The right side of my drawing is facing the sun year-round, having the MBR on the shaded side of the house is just plain awesome in AZ...

Games before dames.

Amen, brotha!

My recommendation is don't make a PERMANENT change exclusively for recreational reasons. I bought a house on a lake because we used to wakeboard every weekend. Now we don't wakeboard and all I have to show is a house that is upside down in a mortgage and a gator in my backyard. Your tastes and hobbies change and there may be a time when you regret it. Not saying that you'll ever not be into arcade games. But they'll be a time you may want it back the same way. If you are willing to pay the money to put it back the way it was when the time comes to sell, then I say do it.

I say go for it what your doing is reversible no real big deal. It would take only a week to fix walls ect if removed. Just make sure nothing is load bearing before you try to remove it LOL.

And I take care of 2 houses and 6 apartment houses with 30 units this stuff would be easy to undo. With the housing market the way it is and if your not moving for a wile I don't think the value is going to be effected much.

Would it be better/easier to put a big opening inbetween the arcade and living room? I really don't watch TV, ever... And that seems like an easier patch-up job than making a closet walkway. (Just seems odd to have 2 separate 'arcades'... Although if I did that, no house modification would have to happen...)

Why don't you just make the whole house an arcade theme?
Instead of a coffee table a couple of cocktail games should work. You can have Different theme room. Convert the whole house a man cave. If your single you might as well be happy and celebrate it.

Maybe an archway of some sort? If that's the only modification shouldn't be to hard to patch up later you could just leave all the closets in tacked in the bedroom for PCB storage and what not. My only concern is what type of flooring do you have (carpet/ hardwood floors?) there is going to have to be some sort of bridge between the 2 rooms probably just straight sub floor under the wall you want to remove.

I deal with some nasty stuff in the apartment buildings I have Lath and Horse hair plaster. Hopefully you have nothing that difficult to deal with LOL.

The plaster walls make it slightly more difficult to repair later but no big deal. I would just stick to poping a doorway in either one of the closets just a simple walkthrough. Easiest to change back later and even if its a load bearing wall you should still be fine if you frame out the doorway. Or takeout both closets and make it a much bigger walkthrough just frame it out like french doors. Im sure there are some guys local to you that could give you a hand Id be happy to but im in ohio.

Jawnh, Make sure first you're not tearing down any weight bearing walls or the whole house will come down on both you and your arcade! I was there a few weeks ago when I bought your Super Hang On cab and as I remember you had a carport?

My advise would be to enclose the carport and create an arch door way there in the existing wall on the East side of the house at the carport. Or if possible open up the entire wall there to the current living room. This would more than double your living room. I would turn one of the bedrooms into the tv room once you have enough games to fill the newly enclosed carport/living room. It will be more expensive to do this but at the same time it will increase the value of your house and you wouldn't have to close up walls you tore down if you wanted to sell the house. I advise you to meet with a reputable contractor(s) and get some quotes and ideas from them before doing anything on your own.

This is sound advice. Very good suggestion.

Then I lose my covered parking, though. :(

I'd rather enclose my back patio in, than lose my carport... I'll have to draw that up so you guys can see...

if it were me, i'd just add another door to the center closet in the opposite wall. Take the doors off and store them in the attic. When/if you decide to sell, reinstall the doors, and you have a closet thats accessible from both rooms.

I suggest you sell this house and get a bigger one. That way you can have a big arcade and the guarantee of staying single would no longer be a guarantee :D

Plus you'll have more room to put "stuff" ;)
