There's a local OP in my area making an attempt to sell machines that he no longer needs. I caught wind of it and called him. I expressed interest in a machine and he asked me, "What's your offer?"

Now anyone that knows me or has read a few posts within the last few months knows that I religeously bellieve that "Make offer" never ends well and quite honestly pisses me off.

So I tell the guy look man, in an auction house it'd bring ~$50-$200. The guy spouts off, "I know these things are usually around $1500 - I know what this stuff is worth. I said, "Look, you told me to make you an offer. I am telling you from my side what it's worth. It differs from your side as an operator. Let's just agree to disagree and leave it at that."

I asked about any empyt Midway Pac style cabinets. He said I have a few. "How much?" $500 - $600. I asked if the games worked and he said, "No that's an empty plywood cabinet. Those bring that much money empty because everyone wants them for a multi."

Yeah - thanks for your time - click.

I guess my first question should not be "How much" it should be "How old are you?"
Seems the old OPS are senile ;)

If you really want any of his stuff call him weekly and talk with him. Keep offering him what you think its worth or just keep asking him how much he wants or x or y

Either the stuff will continue to sit and he'll come to his senses on "what its worth" and/or you'll get to know him and he'll start lowering the price as a "friendship" develops

I have a friend who did this with a car. Seller wanted $3000.00 and my friend kept calling him and offering him $1500... six weeks later and he bought the car for $1500 :)

EDIT: The guy was def high thinking an empty cab was worth 500-600. If that were the case I'd be cranking them out by the truckload from my garage!

Yeah $500 for an empty cab is just a wee bit steep in my opinion. I've yet to talk to an op who wasn't looking to make a generous profit on any and all merchandise, regardless of its condition. That's not to say all ops are greedy but it does get old when their prices are ridiculous and they take you for a dumb shit.

Either I'm too used to seeing KLOV prices or ops don't realize fellow arcade hobbyists DO exist and price check fairly often :D

Hell, I would have asked him if he wanted to buy a couple empty cabinets from me for $250 and flip them for the $500-$600 he can get. ;)

Sounds like the local pacman I have been trying to get. The guy wanted to sell 4 games (most with issues) for $1200. I emailed and asked him if he would just sell the pacman and he said sure $600. I sent him a counter for $150 (according to him is has a bad monitor and no sound). He turned that down and said he would go no lower than $550. I thanked him and told him if he ever wanted to sell it for what I offered I'll come and get it. That was a couple of months ago and the game is still sitting for sale.

Ops suck when it comes to selling a machine time. they have no sense. 1 told me $75 bucks for a robotron (board problem), and $1000.00 for a Simpsons.

wtf?

A local OP here wanted 2000CAN for a funhouse. Barely working, dirty as hell, RUDY was completely messed. Cab was dinged. Might have been worth 500 at best. I just laughed and walked away. It was a basketcase machine and he wanted basically a restored price for it. His arcade is one of the biggest disgraces as well. Nothing works, everything has issues. Literally EVERYTHING..I dunno how they are even open..sad

Ops suck... What can I say?

Many of them got into the biz because they thought that it would be easy money.

Most of them have no business acumen, let alone any people skills.

At certain times (Pre VG crash, SFII era), you could make a bundle and be a complete retard.

But noways, the are exposed for the stupid shits they are. Paying rent on a shitty warehouse to store games that are deteriorating and that they won't ever be able to get rid of at their insane asking prices.

The longer they hold onto this stuff, the less it is worth.
