This is driving me nuts, hopefully someone can help. I have a machine I made a few years ago with Maximus arcade and an I pac for interface. My problem that just appeared is this: When I turn on the machine it loads MA (all I did was create a shortcut to the exe and put it into the startup folder) the problem is, after MA loads it just starts the game that was highlighted on the menu, it won't let you select a different game, just automatically loads. Then when I try to escape I just get a Black Screen. MA works fine if I run it from the exe rather than the shortcut in the startmenu. I really think it is either the I pac or my computer. The reason I think it is a computer isue is that when windows starts up and I try to right click with my mouse the dialog box only briefly pops up and disappears, also if I drag my cursor to any Icon it will Automatically open that application just by passing over the icon. The strange thing is that if I hit any key on the keyboard then my mouse works as it should, this now makes me think it's a Ipac problem. Heeeeeeelp, anyone ever run into this or have Any ideas?

Easy enough to figure out if it's a problem with the ipac - just disconnect it, and power up the computer. See if it automatically starts a game. If it doesn't, then it's something weird going on with the ipac. It almost sounds like a key is stuck down or something. Do you have a keyboard connected to the computer as well, or just the ipac?

I dont think it's the Ipac, sounds like you have a computer issue. Maybe the computer has had enough and time for a new used one.

Remove MA out of the startup group. Reboot.
Then see if the mouse over causes items to open. If the system acts normal then shut down PC. Disconnect IPAC - boot to Windows. Shut down ... reconnect IPAC. If it still acts funky then I would either reflash the firmware on the IPAC or remove the IPAC out of Device Manager and reboot letting it redetect. FYI sometimes this can/will cause USB items to be assigned different ID's then making your MAME layout incorrect.

I had a similar situation with a compiled version of MAMEUI that went defunct for no apparent reason and caused all sorts of goofy/odd things to happen when I started my front end up from the startup group. To make matters worse I could start MAMEUI from my taskbar but if I opened it from the working folder it'd freak out. I had no idea why and even after adding another fresh compiled version. I upgraded to Windows 7 and added a newly recompiled MAME and it's been solid ever since.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll play with it a little and post results if I fix it.

I have also had wierd issues starting mame from the startup menu (auto load). I don't have issues with shelling (quick sheller) Windows and going straight to mala.

I too have a machine with Maximus, I had to take off the instant boot and load Maximus on startup, not too big of a deal, but no gliches since then. I have a trackball on my CP so it makes this easier. I built a machine for another guy, had the same issue so I changed it back for him, no problem in over a year for him and he plays it 5x a week....

unplugged Ipac, rebooted, shutdown, then plugged Ipac back in and started up.....working fine so far, thanks all.
