I keep my games on 24/7 is that bad/dangerous?

I wouldn't leave mine on when I'm asleep. Money saved on the electricity bill can be used for buying more games or other cool stuff.

bottlejunkie, how many hours do you spend playing your games a month vs. the hours that the games are on and not getting played?

I can understand leaving the games on for a while to add room ambiance. But why not turn them off before you go to sleep and prolong the life of your monitors so you can enjoy them longer?

this topic is silly. who in their right mind would leave these things on unattended? they were designed to last only 6 months to a year. the technology is obsolete, and some of these machines even use electricity! not something i wanna leave to chance.i'm not even comfortable leaving them on for too long during a party! let alone over night. you might as well leave the stove on in case you wanna eventually cook something!

It was three years ago the last time it was turned on.

Tubes can get worn out from being left on too long, also. Don't be surprised when it goes black someday.

No shit! The beginning of the death of that tube.

i do leave my t.v. on 24/7 58"dlp never turn it off my light bill for my 1000 sq ft apt runs about 3-400 a month BUT i dont pay rent (im the super) so kinda off sets also i play almost every night have beaten evey game in my PC10 multiple times and gettin pretty good at darts if i dont say so myself.:)

My 3300sqft house with a family of 4 during the winter time runs me about 150.00 a month 175.00 if it's really cold. I don't even try to conserve energy.

You own a DLP and leave it on 24/7?!?!?! You must go through bulbs for that thing once every 3 months!!

I would be mostly worried about fire.

I had a Centipede monitor burn up a year ago during a party.
Some one said, "What's on fire"? (it was Centipede)

If no one was home at that time, don't know what would've happened, but I'm sure it would've been good.

I only fire em up to stand idle if I am going to be working/playing out in the garage. I like the sound of everything working being on and in attract mode. When I first got into this I'd leave it on all the time, but realized it was wasting money and wearing down the parts.

The PC analogy doesn't quite work for me, because I usually have my PC doing something useful when I get up (even if it is just running an IRC bot). On top of, I turn my monitor/speakers off. Arcade machines usually aren't doing anything useful enough in idle to leave on 24/7.

But that's me...and this is about you.

And the analogies get even more rediculous!!!

I only power up the games I will be playing... when i am playing them... unless I am having friends over or I am taking photos, etc. The typical game session consists of me dropping in the game room and firing up a game... I play it then move on to the next game leaving the one I played powered up. By the end of the session I may have 5 or 6 or 7 games running and then I'll power them all down before leaving... unless I am expecting to drop back in the gameroom within a few minutes at which time I'll just leave `em running.

I have a MS. Pac with a 96-1 kit that has been on for well over two years 24/7. No issues yet.

Does anyone have any machines on location in a 24 hour doughnut shop or 24/7 convenience store? Do the games stay on 24 hours?
