I just overpaid for a Donkey Kong, and I couldn't be happier.

$450 is too much for this Donkey Kong. No art on one side, wrong joystick, no coin door, not the best condition. $350 might be alright, but I didn't pay $350. I paid $450. The machine does work well, and more importantly, it was local. The guy even delivered it to my door. It showed up on CL for $795 last week, and after a week of gentle persuasion I got him down to $450 and was not going any lower. He told me his kids would have to eat bread sandwiches.:D

I'm thrilled! For some reason, DKs don't turn over much around here, but I've seen more Juniors than I can shake a stick at. I had DK for the Coleco when I was a kid and used to be pretty good. I played a few games tonight and realized that I have some catching up to do. I'm not going to start the restoration right away. I think I'll just enjoy it as-is for a while, except for the missing coin door. I run all of my games on quarters, so the missing door poses an obvious problem.

Here are a few pics. Note the custom bezel retainers (which have now been removed).

More photos, including the "coin door" made from a piece of wood.

The guy also threw in this random over-and-under coin door. It has a little rust on the bottom door, and no keys, but it does have mechs. If anyone has a Nintendo coin door they would like to trade, please send me a PM!

DK

Congrads your allmost looks like mine when i first got it.

I did a trade that most people would say was a bad one. But if you love the game your getting thats all that matters .

Congrats man. Who cares what ya paid if you enjoy the game :) Finding it local just saved you a boatload of cash, that's awesome. I regularly pay for shipping on my games and its usually pretty close to pricetag of that game...Again congrats, great game!

You didn;t over pay. $450 for a working DK is an ok deal. Not good and not bad. I am suprised to see the coin door with zero coin mechs. First time actually. Congrats!

What is that key hanging on the back of the top coin door? :)

ME TOO! I paid $600-700 for DK a few years ago. It was my only must have machine. Then I spent at least another $300-400 for fixing it up. Art work, new PCB, new joysticks, etc.

But I have never regretted it.

Congrats!!! You just bought the best game ever to own. So fun. Never gets old. Great challenge. LOVE IT.

I guess if you figure I saved $300 on shipping, then the game only cost $150, right? Now that's more like it!:)

Congrats! Got mine just a couple weeks ago. I think I saw a nintendo coin door in the FS forum the other day. I think it was on klov anyway.

heheh yup yup...That's the proper way of rationalizing... Its just like SteveD says, there's usually additional costs to factor after you get the game anyways, unless ya don't care and are happy with games as-is. I picked up a millipede for $550 + $350 shipping....bought a NOS marquee $70 then ended up getting a repro cpo and marquee....throw in a trackball rebuild kit + another $350 to have the stuff installed...Another $85 for the multipede kit...$190 for a brand new monitor + a lighted happs trackball down the road...you get the picture, heheh. I'm looking at about a $1500 millipede cab. I'm sure alot of people wouldnt be comfortable paying that for a millipede and say I'm a fool...Didn't go into it knowing itd cost that much to get it where I wanted it to be, but I'm going to be really happy with it once its done.

I paid $500 for mine with Vs side art on it and a little better shape than yours and to me it was worth every penny and there hasnt been one for sale around here since. Its all about what its worth to you. Gratz on your DK!

i agree, i don't think $450 is overpaying. i paid $300 for mine and i felt like i stole it. and mine was beat to crap with jail bars on the monitor and a bad video ram.

but i knew i was going to be converting it to a DK2, so i didn't care about the condition. i was actually looking for a beat up one, so i didn't have to feel so bad about stripping it.

Now get to work and make it happen!!!

$450 for a working DK isn't bad IMO. Get a new coin door, new art package and T-molding and yours will look good as new!!!
