Yes, I got poked.

No, I don't care.

I just cannot bring myself to put an LCD monitor into a 1980s vid game.

It's just.... wrong.

The guy still has 5 left at this moment in time.

You should've just offered to buy all for 200.

Last time I hesitated, somebody bought the whole lot.

I guess they will start being seen on ebay as the hoarders need to free up cash but I would not expect to see them for less than $200.

Call me an optimist but I still believe there are plenty of low to no burn monitors out there to be had for about $50. Yeah some need fixing but usually less than $50 to do so. Vision pros do have a nice looking pic but I've heard they are a PITA to fix when they break. I prefer to tube swap or just buy nice old monitors rather than new ones. To each his own though. I guess to put things in perspective there are still 19in med res monitors for sale out there as well as vectors that are 20+ years old and have little to no burn. They made a ton more 19in standard res monitors than med res or vector so I think there will be monitors around for some time. No need to panic or even consider going to lcd IMO.

but you have to consider the fact that the relatively inexpensive new monitors like the vision pro were keeping the price down and the availability high for the used monitors.

If happ and wells were selling a couple of thousand monitors every year, and now the supply is cut off, those couple of thousand monitors are going to have to come from somewhere...

a really nice wells 6100 goes for $300 - $400 because there is no supply of new vector monitors to be had. If somebody was making a really decent new vector monitor, and old 6100 would have been selling for probably less than $100

probably what will happen is that the LCDs will start selling in volume and dropping in price.

also, you're going to see a lot more people figuring out how to swap random tubes into old monitors.

It depends on what that supply was being used for. If it was being used solely by hobbyists then absolutely, your assumption is correct.

Newer games are going LCD so demand for new CRT's from that standpoint will drop dramatically.

Used CRT's will likely jump up, but even if they double to $100 or triple(!) $150, for a low/no burn used 19", life is still pretty good.

And you know, I have a feeling those of us that dont do cap kits will stop being babies pretty soon and just bite the bullet.

The only CRT's that will be junked going forward are ones with REALLY bad burn.

I dont agree with this 100 percent. True that alot more standard 19" monitors were made than vectors and medium res. There has also always been off the shelf replacments available for them for cheap. That means alot more of the original monitors have been junked over the years in favor of a new one. Luckily I think there are still plenty of rebuildable chassis around and we can get tubes from old tv's to fix them.

I had bought one of these on ebay a few days ago from the guy. I've been pretty happy with the new vision pro I had put in my Ms. Pac and Centipede. I'm going to put this one in my burgertime that I'm fixing up and take my original wg4900 to Riptor and get it capped and save it. The guy was pretty nice...he emailed and asked what molex connector I needed put on it.

Yea these monitors can be bought other places like betson... I do not think happs made these monitors.

Dave

amazingly, arcadeshop does have them for $199 at this time.

betson's has none.
