Basically, I started out collecting console games starting with Nintendo, now I find myself jumping from system to system, each for a few months at a time. I am currently focusing on Dreamcast and Nintendo 64 games, but still jump around... have any of you guys collected all the games released for a certian system? Why that system? Just ranting...

I personally haven't tried buying every game released, mainly because I could never afford it.

But, working at a game store, there was a guy who would come in every week and buy one of all the new titles released for any Nintendo system. At the time, that was GameCube, GBA and early in to the DS lifespan.

I've run in to the same problem as you, though. I have games from pretty much every major home console, and I own all home consoles from Sega and Nintendo, as well as the newer, such as Sony and Microsoft. I have others from other manufacturers as well...

I've recently decided N64 is my goal for a complete collection. Only a little over 300 games in the US, and less than 400 world wide, and none are too rare/expensive

I'm kind of the same way. I go through phases. Right now I'm back to grabbing NES and SNES games. A few weeks ago, I was on a Vectrex kick. Before that: Virtual Boy and Sega Game Gear. Before that: Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis.

Whatever phases I go through, I always come back to NES and SNES. Those were the systems I played the most while growing up.

As far as collecting every game, I don't go that far. I really only hunt down the games I enjoyed as a kid and the ones that I've heard are cool.

I have around 90 NES games (which I know pales in comparison to some of the collections on here) and probably 40 or so SNES games. I just picked up an SNES Game Genie last night, and I plan to kick copious amounts of ass this weekend.

90 games is respectable, in my opinion.

I have about 140 in the NES, and a little over 90 in the SNES... Both are the systems I played the most, too.

I've pretty much got every game I've ever owned, not necessarily the same copy, but I don't remember any games that I don't have. So, for me, tracking down everything for a certain system seems like a good step.

as for kicks... I'm on an arcade kick, at the moment :p

Collecting is a personal thing. Collect what you like the most. Most people collect a system because it's a system they had positive experiences with as a kid.

I personally don't like collecting complete sets, because it means picking up all the terrible games that you'll never play - or worse, paying huge $$$ for rare terrible games you'll never play. I just collect the games I like for the system and call it done.

SNES prices seem to be on the up at the moment. I think that the kids who grew up with these consoles are now at the age where they are starting to come into disposable income and a lust to re-live their youth, and are starting to collect, so demand is on the up.

personally I collect titles I really lke doesnt matter which system. Metal gear is the big one just missing the special edition of snake eater the red box version. Whatever floats your boat man I say go for it Ive thought of collecting dreamcast but with the advent of emulators I can play my favorite games without having to own a giant library right on my mame setup.

I had that special edition for a while... wish I still did. I pre-ordered it, bought it the day it came out, and then bought a second when some guy traded it in about a week later. so, my original stayed sealed... most expensive game I've owned, and sold

And I have been fortunate enough to work at a game store, so the games I don't really care about seem to fall in my lap sometimes. People just want to get rid of stuff sometimes.

Bought two 25 gallon tubs of NES/SNES/Sega games and a crap load of various systems (Atari 2600-PSone) for a wopping $30. That will probably never happen again

I go on collecting sprees for random systems every now and then but it would be way too costly to try to complete a collection for a certain system. Half of the games suck and I'd never want to play them anyways.

I have maybe 90-100 NES games, 30 SNES games, 70-80 N64 games, 30 cube games, 10 Wii games, amongst other systems.

If I find myself thinking hey...I really want to play ______ game then I'll track down a copy. Or if I randomly see a game or two on craigslist that I've been thinking about or have thought about finding I'll pick it up. My collection is slowly growing in no particular order but this way I make sure I enjoy whatever games I pick up. What's the point of having a shit ton of games that I'll never play? I know one day my kids or another collector will look at the games I have and say that is one good selection of games. I buy with no intent to get rid of them one day.

Same here. That's really the way to do it.

I'm just still pissed at myself for tossing all my SNES and N64 game boxes a few years back. My parents were bitching about all my crap at their place and I had to toss some stuff and I ended up tossing about two moving boxes worth of nothing but SNES, N64, and maybe some GB/VB game boxes/manuals. I obviously have the games, but all the boxes are gone. I kept a select few like any Squaresoft SNES boxes, OoT Gold Edition box and such, but most all else went in the trash.

:(

Oh I know exactly what you mean! I for some reason growing up kept most of my boxes and when we moved I thought I was making the right decision throwing them out but man do I wish I held onto them. Good things like the gold OOT box and every sweet game I ever had.

i find myslef always coming back to the original NES nintendo system. still love playing my top loader every so often....

at one point i had over 600 unique titles (mostly all from thrift store/ swap meet finds). now, ive widdled it down to about 300 of my faves. some are in the house, some are in garage boxed up.

theres still a few i have never found (like that rare flintstones game, bonk, little samson). just didnt want to pay full price on ebay.

actually, i found a small box of good nes games on mon @ the goodwill. they were a buck a piece and included metroid, punchout, dragon warrior 1,2,3, , kid icarus, and some others.

NES 4 EVA :)

Hey, don't get me wrong. I'm generally all about quality over quantity.

That's how I've started out... but I find it hard to pass up games for about $1 at goodwill or garage sales. and I really find it hard when people just give games away (which happens A LOT with last generation stuff, like Xbox, Cube and PS2) People litterally don't care... that's how I get most of my stuff

Only time I pay ebay prices are when I just have to have something. Like when I completed my Zelda collection. I have every Zelda (well, every Nintendo Zelda... let's not mention the Phillips CDi ones) game and most every one is 100% complete, in box (including the gold versions)
and that's because I LOVE Zelda...

I tried to collect every game made for the NES but stopped when I hit 563. I thought to myself, why have all these carts taking up space when I can have them all on 1 PC emulator. I then sold every game I had and made a hell of a profit to boot. I do miss the thrill of the hunt though, feels so good to find something you have always wanted.

I agree to the thrill of the hunt, way exciting.

But all we have around me lately is the bitter taste of defeat!

Even ebay with its "buy it now" frenzy is no fun. What happened to auctions??

+1.I thought and did exactly the same thing.Hated to see some of those games go,but I can still play them on the emu plus the carts aren't taking up tons of space.I'm glad I collected the Mega Man and Dragon Warrior games...cha-ching!

collect

collect what makes ya happy.
I wouldn't obsess about making it for every game for any system, but mabey ones you enjoy.
there is always some way to spend money. but You could spend some on the collection and the rest on a trip or something..
to each their own, but sometimes you just loose interest after obtaining that grail. or series.. then you stuff em in the closet and there they sit..

Ones I always thought I would want, bubble bobble, samurai sho, ninja gaiden.
i ended up with my candy cab, a 4 in one neo, some misc board i need to test when i have -5 hooked up and a 60 in 1 and I will probly just play the 60 in 1 and neo. cost wise im sure bubble bobble and the rest are just to much.

I have every commercially released game for Intellivision, Magnavox Odyssey, Magnavox Odyssey 2, Atari 5200, RCA Studio II, APF MP1000, Vectrex, and Emerson Arcadia 2001. I still need some boxes, manuals and test/demo carts for those systems. I have almost every game for Fairchild Channel F, Bally/Astrocade, Atari 7800, Epoch Cassette Vision and I'm probably forgetting something.
