I Just Bought a FLIR

Just had an arcade game related USPS package show up more than a week late with 0 tracking progress provided throughout.

Maybe it would make sense to just abolish the postal service and go with private carriers. I see some idiocy there as well, but not to the overwhelming extent that it exists with USPS.

It's working exactly the way it's meant to. This is by design.

I was a shipping manager for almost 9 years. USPS is by far superior to both UPS and FEDEX who do not even handle a fraction of what USPS handles. They are not perfect by any means though.

I have a Stargate so I'll try it. Once the FLIR arrives........

In the mean time, I was wondering since this is supposed to arrive tonight, but it seems to be lost in Indianapolis right now. It's been stuck there for 2 days without any progress, so I sincerely doubt it's coming in TONIGHT by 9:00 pm.
Get one with the back door open and all the stuff heated up might look better than a front shot ,please thanks
Stay tuned to this Bat Channel for more news.

Well, it's doing a loop-de-loop. It went to the Indianapolis distribution center, sat until 3/15, where it was sent to the Nashville DC. Nashville just shipped it back to - Indianapolis.

And more fun with USPS Job Actions.

I've been seeing a lot of this lately with USPS (arriving at my local distribution center, then getting sent one state over, then returned, etc.)... and now with UPS and FEDEX, who were previously A+ on time in my area. Heck, even my APAR orders, which were some of the fastest I've ever dealt with from USPS at 3 days or less, has now taken over a week and still hasn't arrived.

It arrived yesterday. It was as promised, minus the wall wart (I have so many, who cares?). I charged it up.

The software - it's clunky, but I did get it to work and it showed me my office seems to be missing insulation over the ceiling area. Uh oh.

I'm going to do some more experimental work with it around the house. It seems to work better than I was hoping for at this point.

You can see two fan blades in the image. I have a clipped peak ceiling with angles on both sides. The angles were warm, the top of the ceiling as you can see, was much colder. I need to do some more images where I know I have insulation over a trayed ceiling and see what that looks like. Normal or what?

So too early to tell, and once I get a feel for this, I'll start looking at edge connectors and PCBs.

Glad to see you got your package. I'm dealing with the same now … package arrived in Indy on the 14th, left on the 15th and …. returned to Indy on the 18th? It never made it from Indy to Grand Rapids MI. Weird.

Glad it's not a life saving organ! I'm sure it'll get here eventually.

I had a Flir a while back, came in super handy with bottle caps on vector monitors haha. Honestly tho, for the price I genuinely feel like you pay through the teeth for the Flir brand name. For that reason I'm a huge fan of the Topdon ones. They are higher resolution at 512x384 compared to the Flir one pro at 160x120 (which is always something that bothered me about the Flir One and One Pro) and they support the same USBC/Lightning ports on either iOS or Android without the "FLIR tax".

…Oh, and like, Amazon same day shipping and returns, so none of that USPS crap ya'll have to deal with.

Amazon shipping has its own crap to deal with…

I mean, I guess that depends on where you live. Most things I need are delivered Free, same/next day, with no order minimums to my place here in Calgary. Same with the links above. Mind you we have two MASSIVE amazon wear houses here in the city too. So I guess that helps.

Returns have always be stupidly easy for me also. 9 times outta 10 they pick them up at my door next day without needing a box or label. For the amount of stuff my wife and I buy and return we must be on a list internally somewhere. lol

If you're expecting this to greatly expand your repair capabilities, or help you find an issue that has been eluding you, you may need to adjust expectations.

What? We agree on something? :D

Flir cameras are neat, I used one to identify dead 4116s on my Stargate board. The dead ones didn't heat up.

Yes, I think they are more effective to find parts that SHOULD be hot, but are not.

It is a fun tool to play with though.

For sure, it's also how I found out that the series pass transistor on my Phoenix's monitor wasn't doing anything when I was having brightness issues, it wasn't getting warm at all. Those bottle caps are definitely not something you want to feel with your hand, unless you like high voltage dc going through your arm.

Wow, that's crazy that they pick up returned products like that. Not so here in the US, but returns are ridiculously easy at a nearby Kohl's or Whole Foods.

And it's funny that you say you must be on a list somewhere because I've read articles that they carefully track customer returns and people that return too many items are banned from future purchasing, so that's a real thing.

Oh I'm not saying they aren't convenient. I use it all the time.

That's crazy that they pick up returns. We have to drop them off usually. I've heard they do keep track of people who abuse returns, but as long as you keep the majority you should be good.
