Okay, Was the 20 EZ monitor standard for all ninty cabs, also did any other cabs come in orange other than DKJ? I am contemplating building a DKJ and was wondering if the EZ monitor is my only option. Are they hard to come by?

A 20" Sharp came with the cabs and later cabs came with a Wells Gardner.

You could always standard monitor and get an inverter from MikesArcade.

The 20EZ was standard for all the Nintendo games, though I believe they also used the Sharp XM-2001N later on. I have 20EZ in both my DKs and I acquired a Sharp for my MB. The Popeye I used to have has a 20EZ as well.

Also, DK Jr. came in Orange out of the factory. Since DK3 was a kit, there were a lot of DK/DK Jr. to DK3 conversions. So there were a good number of DK3s in Orange as well. There were also a good number of DK/DK Jr. to Vs. UniSystem conversions for the same reason.

From my understanding, 20EZ monitors are not terribly hard to come by as they pop up in the FS section as well as ebay, but they are a bit pricey. Around the $100-120 range. Though, sometimes guys sell them for less, maybe around the $70-80 range.

The dedicated Mario Bros (widebody) came in orange -- well at least the sides were orange. The front and the back were black.

well the cab that I am getting is all orange but I feel that If I install a DKJ kit that it will clash being that the DKJ kit is mostly light blue. I guess I'll strip the cab down and vinyl it blue. Not what I planned but I guess I have no choice lol.

DK Jr. was definately orange from the factory. Although if you look at the Japanese flyer for it they show it in a light blue cab.

It's possible that they created the artwork with a blue cab in mind, made the protype for the flyer, and then switched up to an orange cabinet when they started producing them. I guess it's also possible that there was a small run of DK Jr in light blue cabs but I've never seen or heard of that happening.

If you compare it to DK there's a similar thing going on. The first DKs produced were done in red cabinets. They switched to light blue early on and kept that color. Some people think the light blue cab with the red and orange art clash. My working hypothesis is that they designed the DK artwork around the red cabinet. They were producing the blue cabinet for Popeye but when DK became a sleeper hit they started using Popeye blue cabinets to meet demand (this would explain why there's a period in the production run where DK was produced in both red AND blue cabinets.) It would seem to make sense that, instead of making a lot of different cabinet colors, they could just make blue and put in whatever game they wanted. Of course, this goes out the door with DK Jr when they started making orange cabinets.

Personally, I think the contrasting colors look good for both DK and DK Jr.

There was a long thread on this a few months ago when I was thinking of what color to paint my DK Jr. I went with blue and I still don't regret it. I love the way it turned out. It always comes down to personal preference. The contrast of Blue and Orange with DK and DK Jr. is great, but I also have a MBWB that is orange so I will still have contrast.

DK Jr. - Blue or Orange?:

Well, now that I can see a full color pic of the DKJ in orange it does'nt clash as bad as I thought it would. I think I will stick with it. Anyone have a pic of a complete set of wiring for the insides? I have a friend that may have what I need but he is not sure if it is just that. He says it may be system 1. Is the wiring harness the same one used across all of the single game nintendo cabs, popeye,DK's, mario etc.???

I think it looks good in blue, I have only played DKJR in orange cabs though so if I were to put one in my home arcade I'd go with orange.

And DK3 just blows pest spray up DK's ass so I wouldn't put one of those in my home..... ;)
