Coin Doors!!! I f-ing hate them. I hate dis-assembling them, I hate losing parts to them, I hate trying to figure out how they go back together, I hate sanding them and getting all the flaking paint and rust off, I hate getting one area too smooth when the rest of the door is textured, I hate straightening the sheet metal and filling Op-lock holes, I hate painting them when 1 side doesn't get enuff coverage or one side gets hit with a two-tone over spray, I hate seeing and having to fix the bent and chewed up rusty door edge where they have been pried open cuz someone lost the key. I HATE THEM.

Well, I finally decided to take my time, remove the doors from the frames, have a labeled bin handy for the parts, take a pic before dis-assembly, sand to the bare metal and start fresh, clean and fix ALL parts before putting them together, and giving the proper paint a long enuff time to cure before reinstalling all of the parts. It worked. I have done 3 coin doors in 3 days, and they look and feel the best out of all that I have ever done. Anyone else hate restoring coin doors? They have always been my weakness when it comes to restoration.

This takes the cake for the 'look at me' post of the year.

Bravo.

Well, if you ever actually restored any of your games rather than just trying to sell them for half of what you paid as quickly as they enter your gayrage you'd be able to relate. Until then, why don't you stay out of my threads and let the big boys talk for a while.

Restore them he says. Why? So I can post more "look at me!" threads?

Can I send you my coin doors? ;) I tell my visitors if an imperfect coin door bothers you, don't look down.

It would be better than the "look at me when I blow you" editorial rants you've been submitting to the bi-weekly 'Gay Nineties' Fagazine.

Why would I rant about you not looking at me while you blow me? I don't care what you look at, sir. Just keep up the good work.

Take a batch of them to a local powder coater. They will blast and coat them in one batch for pretty cheap. I think it was around $10 a piece when I did it. Beats the living shit out of sanding and then painting them.

You're probably right, I just haven't found one locally yet. Probably cuz I haven't looked too hard. Well, I will for the next batch.

Plus, since they're stainless, it's kind of like a DeLorean. You aren't doing any bodywork then paint on them.

Actually, Rustoleum now sells Stainless Steel Appliance Epoxy that would probably work pretty well for those types of doors. I have used it on some control panels and it looks like the real deal. Even has metal flakes in the paint.

What the hell is with all the "LOOK AT ME" responses? Seriously. This forums is for people to post this stuff... I like reading em... Sheesh... "Look at me" responses have jumped the shark. Stop it already.

Good job on the coin doors Phet... I hate `em too... there always seems to be just a LITTLE RUST screwing up what is otherwise a decent looking door.

I find the rust usually is at the top outside of the door where it rubs against the frame.

I agree. I think Jow should buy a dicket for Spanks' tranny train and ride his ass out of this hobby too. We don't need his kind around here. All Aboard! Woo Woo!!

+1 on the wire wheel. I used to sand coin doors and then found that a brass wire wheel or, if you can find one, a brass wire brush rips that old paint and rust off like magic. The steel ones don't follow the nooks and crannies as well as the brass ones (IMO).

Dismantling and reassembling them isn't that big a deal but I find waiting for the paint to dry now is the hardest part.
