When I start my vs cabinet I get a lour ringing noise. I tried it with hogans alley and smb. Both ring and never start the game. Any know what could cause this?

It's definitly the alarm. I had a broken wire on the 44 pin. It was a ground. If the game isnt grounded, the alarm goes off. After I soldered it, went away and worked perfectly.

I figured it out. I removed the gun and hooked up another joystick. The problem was that I had the 2j chip in the sub side and not in the 2j. That made the noise stop but the gamne still does not start. I tried two different boards and get the same. It just never starts the game. Any ideas??

Just a thought, but are you using the correct side of the board? I have the Mikes Arcade Jamma adapter and have to use the bottom set. 6 and 8 i think it is(connector on the right). I use a jumper for the top security chip.

Thanks for your post. Yes, the two boards I have are the single side boards that work with SMB and Hogans alley. I have the chips on the sub side and the IC chip in j8 which in on the main side. Neither board will start the game. If I take the chip out of j8 I get a ringing sound when i start the game. I am stumpped on this one..... Anyone else have any ideas. I have tried two different PS and three different harnesses just to make sure that was not the issue.

Sometimes when I reseat the rom chips, it starts working. I had the same problem with my Duck Hunt set and it took about 4-5 reseats before it started up with no problems.

Thanks for the post. I have reset them about three time going back and forth from board to board. I will keep trying. I did notice that the service switch and coin counter are cut. That would not cause an issue would it?

Does it flash like an old nintendo use to?

When I put one of the bad PPU's i have in, it flashes and won't start. When i put one of the bad CPUs i have in, it doesn't even flash. It just does nothing. Do you have a jumper on the unused side when you have Mario in?

You may have a bad PPU/CPU or both.
