I have a new grail.

I really like these older attempts at motion games and what they came up with. Compared to the new stuff I saw at IAAPA this year that should be easy to get motion working. The new stuff would have to be a nightmare. I like the look of the cab too and would make room for one myself if the right opportunity presented itself.

Good luck on getting one. :)

One of these sold at the Dallas auction about 6 months ago for about $800. Motion wasn't working but he is still working on it last I heard. Fellow KLOVr. Aggie427 or something like that. Sorry Matt, can't remember your handle. This is truly an awesome cabinet.

I think the motors are very expensive.. If your lucky, it might have an option to disable to motors and they are just turned off.. I think some buddies of mine used to repair one at the local chuck e cheese. I can ask them what they know about it..

the steering issue is probably pretty simple and you just need to replace the steering pot.

"Galloping Ghost Arcade" in Chicago has one of these and I spoke to co-owner Doc about it. He said that unlike most motion cabs that use motors (Think Outrun), this one uses actual hydraulics and they are VERY expensive. Also, you are correct, there is an option in the operator menu to disable the motion functions of the game. I have a dedicated sit-down Cruis'n USA (the non-motion wooden type), and mine has those options available if you change the cabinet type to motion.

Also, I found one of these motion Cruis'n USAs on Craigslist a few months ago for FREE!!!! because the monitor had died and the warehouse that owned it did not want to mess with it. It looked beautiful in the pic but when I called to arrage picking it up, they said some guy already beat me to it and he was surprised how quickly they got rid of it.

I'd try to offer really low first and if they won't take it keep going up. I personally would not pay more than 400 for it in the condition you described unless they will let you play with the operator menu first and you find the motion does work. Also, the steering issue is EASY to fix. Cruis'n USA does not calibrate on start up. You have to do it manually in the operator menu and it is saved to CMOS. If that does not work, try cleaning the 5k pot with some contact cleaner. (Radio Shack sells this). Even if you had to replace the pot, they are not outrageously priced.
