Just missed out on a nice looking Ms. PAC-Man control panel on eBay. I was the highest bidder for nearly the entire duration of the auction until the last minute. Unfortunately I was rocking my son to sleep and missed it.

Of course the high bid doubled in that minute.

Ah well. It's not as if I have a Ms. PAC cab anyway. :)

that happens to me, just lodt guantlet 4 player on ebay, went for 377$ was almost new, went to start coffee and forgot then. poof gone. i still keep kicking myself...should have bid $500 and would have still got it for $400

There's a really easy way to not get sniped. Just bid your highest bid. If you want the item bad enough, you won't care about inching your way up to the final price.

If I get the time, I sometimes try to snipe an auction. But if it's something I truly want, I put up my absolutely highest bid. One penny more means I don't want it. Easy peasy.

just use sniping software. Be honest with what you would pay for an item. Enter it. and check back to see if you won. There are some free sites out there.

eBay is dying. Our eBay sales are down 60% to 80%. During the peek season there would be 11000 items in our section and now there is 40000 items. Ebay has taken the fun out of it also with the BUY IT NOW deal. Auctions were fun. We used to do 40000 a month and now we do do 4 to 6000 a month.

He'll get his payback when he's visiting during college break and wants to sleep to noon. Dad will have no qualms breaking out the power tools. :)

Payback's a motherfucker!

Are you missing a control panel or just wanted a nice one? I have one that came off of a game that was converted that you can have but I think its just the panel. No joystick or buttons.

You are absolutely right with that. I was a bit mad at the time, but I wouldn't have paid what the item went for in the end. Still, I was sooo close! :)

Here is why that is flawed and sniping is the way to go.

Without snipe
1. I'm willing to pay $500 for an item so I enter that bid
2. Someone keeps bidding in small increments until they hit $501
3. You lose out by $1

With snipe
1. I'm willing to pay $500 for an item so I setup a snipe at $500
2. Someone keeps bidding in small increments until they hit the current max bid of $400
3. They are the high bidder so they stop bidding and go off to other things.
4. At the last second you snipe and win at $401. You get the item at a price lower than your actual item.

I was originally looking for a pac joystick, but came across this control panel, fully populated, with a nice cpo even.

I really shouldn't have expected to get it at my high bid, but I figured I'd give it a shot, just in case.

I've also never won an eBay auction, so maybe I should "snipe" at least once.

From a buying perspective, sniping is the only way to buy any auction item on eBay.

Yes, the high bidder will win. That's simply how it works. But people will slowly raise the price up trying to beat you, thinking "Maybe if I add a little more to my max bid then maybe I'll win again!" then lose, then give up, and now you've paid more than you would have if they hadn't added their additional small bid to try and beat you. They should have bid their max bid and stopped when they were outbid. They would lose either way, but now have made the item cost you more.

Sniping is awesome for the buyer, but terrible for the seller.

eBay auction items will always go to whoever wants to pay the most $$. It's just that the standard nowadays is for all of the bids to come in with between .5 and 10 sec. in the auction.

I hate sniping I always enter what I will pay for it. I'll admit getting hosed by the guys who go in oddball increments and eek the price at the end drive me nuts. I have lost two auctions in the last 6 months by less then $0.50. And these were 8 dollar items either.

And sniping sucks as I don't have time to perfectly match up to the last 3 minutes of an auction. I guess I could use sites to do it but meh.

It is frustrating.

On another note I just got hosed on Ebay. I bought some marketing flags on ebay. They looked nice in the picture. They were pictured with poles. In the description it stated additional mounting brackets available.

For $115.00 I expect some posts/poles. Do I get them? Nope. When I call the guy generously offers to sell me the posts, bases, spinners, and the mounting brackets to affix the flags for a mere $350.00 per flag. Now does all fo that sound like "additional Mounting brackets Available".

I call this guy and get told I should learn to read, and how do I own a business being a dumb ass who can't read. When I mention the picture he states "Oh that is just a generic picture none of our flags look like the picture". Yea no shit the pictures look nice these things are craptastic.

So I hate ebay more today then usual. Between sniping and scammer ass sellers peddling shit and playing on semantics to make a buck.
