I got the dirtiest Elvis of all time.... (Before & After pics)

Hey guys, picked up an Elvis today! Yay....however it was ONE DIRTY MOFO!!!!
Here is the proof that Sterns clean up pretty nicely even when BLACKENED!
I didn't do a full shopjob yet, but Novus'd the main open part of the playfield.

And that, my friend, is why I hate black rubbers.

I see white rubbers in there too, which are now black from dirt.

This is no more then on location play dirt, that's be neglected.

Anyway, nice pick up and it will all clean up nice for you!

Wow what a difference !

I was able to play this a couple of times during work breaks when I was working a week at Reed Elsevier in Amsterdam a couple of years ago. Regretfully, it's been removed now ....

The regular guys who played it asked me to join in and I wasn't half bad :)

I saw one last week in a holiday park it looked much like yours before cleaning. There was even a second pin there (Family guy IIRC). Pretty amazing to find pins in the wild these days....

I like it, I know a lot of people don't, but I think it's a great theme and game.

Congrats

I never knew black rubbers did that. Very good to know. Was thinking about getting some to make my games look cooler. The local operator has some machines that are close to that dirty and I just looked up the worst ones and they all have black rubber. Does anyone sell black rubber that does not cause that?

Is looking good so far.

cleaned up nicely. keeper? or you flipping it?

It's generally not worth it to flip games for the sake of flipping them. When I put a shitload of work into a game, I want to keep it and enjoy it. It's not worth my time to make a few hundred. Granted, I do occasionally sell games and usually get more than what I paid for them...but that's never really my intent. It's usually based on needing the room for something else, or just getting bored w/ a game. I've been jonesin' for an Elvis for a few months now...and now that I got it - it's definitely a keeper!

I checked the audits and this game had almost 35,000 plays!!!! So - that's 6 years of probably NEVER being cleaned. Also, Elvis has a lot of metal, which makes games dirtier.

If you have black rubber on a home game, you'll start seeing some black trails...but if you keep it clean somewhat regularly, you should be fine. Most of my games have white rubber though - looks better, plays better, keeps the game cleaner. Sometimes just look better w/ black (IMO)...I left black on my RFM and BDK.

cool...glad you got one you wanted. i played it at disney and to be honest, didn't really care for it all that much, but it wasn't working 100% either which obviously makes a big difference. i'd like to play one that's in top shape as it looked like it had some cool shots.

didn't mean anything by the comment about flipping it...just wasn't sure about your pinball habits, that's all.

you get a good price on it? and just out of curiosity, how many pins do you have?

I think I'd hate every pinball too if I only played shitty dirty versions. The only Elvises I've played have been filthy or w/ weak flippers...but when I played the one at the movie theater near me, AT LEAST they had the sound cranked up...and that really really sucked me in...I love games that sing...and it's so upbeat and fun. It's just a very "happy" game...hehe. ...but yeah, I'll have a real gameplay judgement one I have it clean and dialed in...but it's a Steve Ritchie game, it's musical....I think it'll be a fun keeper.

It was about 2000. ...and Elvis makes 20 pins. *glargh* I have room for 14 in the house...I have 5 in the garage (including Elvis) and 1 at work. I really only comfortably have room for 4 in the garage - so, this means 1 has to go...or, I have to sell something in the house collection to make room for Elvis. Well, I have to spend some time shopping it out...I'll worry about what gets sold/moved later. :)

again, no offense intended. i'm heading up to the auction in TN this weekend. i'd love it if they had a fully working elvis for me to get some time on.

i'm not the biggest elvis fan in the world, but the pin did seem to have some cool shots. again, congrats on your pickup.....and very nice work on the cleaning. that thing looked light years better after you got your hands on it.

I've seen white rubber games get just as dirty and I've had black rubber games and they never got the least bit dirty. I think the black rubber thing is mostly a myth. Games on route will get that dirty, especially Sterns with lots of metal. I saw a Stern Nascar that was only a couple of months old that looked like that.

I think Elvis is a pretty good game, I'm not big on the theme though. If the same layout/rules had a different theme/art/sound, it might be one of my favorite later model pins. I still enjoy playing it though. It's on the easy side I think. Simpsons is one of all my all time favs, and I'm sure it has a lot to do with the theme.

I'm not an Elvis fanatic or anything...but I like his music for what it is...fun, classic music...and it really gives the game a "good time" charm to it. I sense that it might be easy...so - I'm probably going to set it up to be a bit tough. That should balance it and perhaps give it some of that addictive replay value.

Simpsons Pinball Party is a great game...PERIOD. Being a Simpsons fan kicks it up a new notches, of course...but the design and software is Keith Johnson's "love letter" to pinball. Deepest....game.....ever.

Good score, sir. Is 2K what a routed elvis is generally pulling or did you get a good deal? I want to add one eventually. Love elvis' music. Mom is a fanatic and I grew up with it.

just about every "modern" stern ive seen with black rubbers is like that.. nice to know that itll usually comeoff.

now if i could just get a modern stern, id be happy.
