Did my first job today for someone else and I got paid to do it. I was thinking if you could make some money helping out others with thier games so I posted on Craigslist and I got my first call. A guy wanted to swap one monitor in his gameroom with another monitor that he just bought, took less then and hour and recieved $35 dollars and the old monitor. It is not working but we will see if I can change that. if this starts up then I my wife will not have anything to complain about, well that is not true as long as I collect games she will have something to say. She hates my games :)

That is pretty cool.

I barely have time to work on my own hobby machines so haven't put out a shingle. :)

At one time in Texas it was a requirement to have a 'license' to repair amusement machines and then of course State Sales and Use Tax had to be paid as well. I am assuming that is still the case - just FYI.

EDIT: Decided to have a look so here is the link. It is still required to work on other folks machines for $$.

Cool man, I have fixed a few arcade machines for a guy, and I made a few hundred dollars and got to enjoy working on them since they were very nice classics, he had some EM machines, but I don't have any EM knowledge. There isn't much of a market for fixing games, really depends where you live I guess. You just got to find them or put an ad out.

I assumed that you made a house call. Man, I wish you are closer. I definitely need some help with my games.

Actually, Phet had a thread about his "Professional Repair" experience a couple of months ago.

I think he wrote a "Penthouse letter" about it, didn't he?

Congrats. I have done that a couple times for people. Usually I am delivering a game or picking one up and will notice something faulty with a different game. I usually charge a beer and a good conversation or work out a trade.

First of all, NICE avatar!

Second, where are you located? I'm sure there are guys near by that can help out.

Yep, and after 2 months, one bad check and a few calls, I finally got paid, in person, by the owner of the restaurant. He came to my house and wrote me out a personal check and apologized for all the BS. I went to the Fisher's Club and checked the SMB out the other day, everything is still working beautifully, but the paper bezel I made for the monitor had slid down a bit and was obscuring the Plyr 1 score. I *should* just go offer to raise it and reattach it with vecro, but now that I've gone pro, I'll have to wait for the official repair call.

Thanks man, I am in Los Angeles area. Around here, I only know of the techs that either have their own shop or work for a shop, not a free lancer which means over $100/hr.

You know, I *do* like your avatar but wish you'd change it to something else.

I don't like having to explain it to my wife or kids.

for a minute there I thought this was about Jason Forster.

i'm still waiting for the refund he promised he would send. but i guess since the public heat is off he's back to his old self.

Kids are easy: "Dad, what's that?" "It's someone's BUTT! Isn't that funny?"

Wife is easy too: "Yes, I'm a man. No, I'm not dead." but then again, my wife doesn't care about stuff like that. Now if I were cheating on her that would be one thing. A random picture on a website?

Hmm...

Yesterday I'm on an Airplane with my wife. She says something along the lines of "I think that stewardess has the same name as me", referring to herself. I take a look at the name tag but immediately my eyes shift to the bouncing boob that the name tag is on. I said, "I have no idea what her name is, all I saw was a bouncing boob!"

You guys that are "afraid" of what your wives might say if you actually open up and behave like a man need to stop it. I'm raising my son to be courteous to women and his elders but by no means do I want him to be stifled by some chick.

I'm not knocking anyone, just saying that you need to lighten up.
