Man I love this game, I made a really bad video last night while I was testing it out, I will make much better one soon.

My plans are to this weekend to pick up a Midway cabinet from timiskander and make custom side art and marquee from the Japanese flyer. I don't know if I want to do a 19" or 25" monitor. This board is the Japanese Namco version, and by that time games were in 25" candy cabinets. It would also mean I wouldn't have to design a Bezel.

Also thanks to mastercello for selling me this board!

IMO This is the best of the Galaga shooters.....Game play is great as well as the sounds. I played it to death on the computer and finally bought the board. I still have yet to put it in a cabinet. I'd put it in a 19inch mmonitor if it was mine.

PS To bad there isnt a high res file of that poster....I could make prints from it.

Yes the audio is just fantastic! Have you played Galaga Arrangement in Namco Collection Vol 1?

The poster prints out pretty good on 11x17, I think I might be able to enlarge it some more and clean it up the scan is pretty good.

You can convert that to English by changing just two ROMs. If you need the chips burned let me know.

Thanks, I might want different ROMs burned, but for Galaga '88 since I am using the Japanese art I want the Japanese ROMS.

I was thinking of a 24inch x 36 inch poster.....it would be all out of focus and pixilated....oh well. Never played the Galaga Arrangement...what is it?

Congrats! If you do a run of the side art, let me know. I had someone print inkjet versions of the original graphics and marquee but I love the idea of making it look like Gaplus with the Japanese art.
Also, I can't figure out how to leave you positive feedback for the Gaplus board!

I find this post funny, because just last night I installed my Galaga '88 board set into my Galaga machine that is outfitted with one of Clay Cowgill's multi-jamma setups. It replaced my original Galaga board set, which had been outfitted with the high score save mod that also allows you to select between "normal" shot and "rapid" shot just before the game starts. I found it un-necessary to keep the original board in the machine, since it also contains the following board sets on the cabinet:

Arcadeshop Programable (which has the original Galaga and Galaxian loaded)
Galaga '88 (now installed)
Namco Classics Vol. 1 (includes original and "arrangement" versions of Galaga)
Super Space Invaders '91 (AKA Majestic Twelve)
Pleaides

Using an Arcadeshop multicade control panel, I wired the left two buttons to the joystick, so that you usd them as "left" and "right" controls for Space Invaders and Pleaides to give that authentic original control feel for those games that used buttons instead of sticks.

Getting back to the Galaga '88 board set, did you notice the stereo/mono switch? Running it in mono, for standard jamma audio playback, the "bass" and "treble" adjustment knobs are still active! Depending on your speaker used in your cabinet, you will want to tweak these settings to get the ideal sound from the game. Having the bass cranked up too high may over-drive your speaker. I found the best results with the treble turned most (but not all) the way up (probably about 80 to 85 percent), and with the bass turned down to probably somewhere between 40 to 50 percent. Hard to tell with knobs like these, but in order to get the sound "right", you will definitely want to adjust these as well to your liking...

Awesome! Congrats! I was running Galaga '88 in my Dragon Spirit for a short while. Very cool game, for sure!

Maybe try to find an original Atari cabinet?

The original Galaga '88 cabinet was just too damn plain looking for my tastes. Even the Galpus cabinet was better, and usually Atari was pretty good about making decent/unique cabinets. At the time it was released, however, I suppose the focus was on cabinets that are easily converted. This is evident when you see how the Dragon Spirit cabinet was basically the same with minimal art differences for identification purposes.

Agreed the Atari cabinet was rather.. blah. It's not disgusting-bad, it just doesn't live up to the game. Galaga 88' Is one of my favorites, hope to own one some day. Congrats on you getting one Op! I hate your guts! :)

I wondered who filled up my inbox? ;)

Well so I got a cabinet this weekend, but I guess I am in denial about how much of a sickness this is to me ;)
