So on Monday I picked up a really nice Joust machine. I never thought I would own one of these and have never thought about it. I was searching CL out of boredom and came across the ad for it. The game had already been listed for over a week so I automatically assumed that it was gone. I called them anyway, turns out three others flaked before me and he had enough. I explained to him that I was very serious and was a collector and he was ready to do business especially since he discovered I was five minutes away from him. I got to his place and surprisingly he had a few games. This Joust,Frogger,Police trainer,MsPac,and a Big buck hunter. His kids went off to college and he has decided to sell the games since they are grown and gone, apparently they were for them and played a good bit when they lived at home. Anyway the game has very little burn, very nice art, original molding, still has the black plastic trim on the bottom edges. I plan to change the CPO out as it has some burns on it in the oddest places. I have no idea how the smokers stopped the cigs from rolling off the CP in the positions that the burns are located.I have played Joust before but never on the UR,so far I love it!!!

I dont think everyone flaked like he said. It was more liked passed on it as in my case. He took it off craigslist for a minute because he could not find the key and new I was coming to get it. So two day later he found the key, through it back on craigslist and called me to come see it. It was not in the condition he advertised it as, so that's why I passed on it. It was still a good price for someone who wanted one. I was only getting it because he stated 10 out of 10 condition and looks perfect. I was hoping that was true so I could change it out with mine. As you can see its not a 10 out of 10, but still in decent shape. That one is actually like mine with the optic joysticks. Great game to have in the collection and your kids will enjoy it also. If I new you was looking for one I had a nice one I just finished up.

P.S. if you do get a new overlay you need to find one for optic joysticks. The regualr overlays arcadeshop sells will not work for this panel.

Believe it or not I don't ever really check craigslist. Someone always ends up sending me a link to something they think I might want or sometimes I just might so happen to look it up while I'm somewhere waiting for something, like an oil change. Whenever I'm home in the daytime I'm working on games. When I'm not I'm usual out doing stuff or picking up games/ parts from Ops in different states. So I really don't have time to be on there like some of you'll think I am. I get 90% of my games from different Ops, not craigslist. Last game I got from Craigslist was a waterlogged Tron about a month ago and it wasn't no were close. If I was on Craigslist 24/7 it wouldn't matter anyawy because most of you guys dont like driving more than 30 minutes out the way anyway lol.

Awesome pick up man. Extra cool that it has the optic joysticks. Darryl you need to take a break so we can build up our collections! :)

Nice looking Joust! It's still my favorite game of all time. Congrats on your pickup.

I have a spare overlay for the optical joystick control panel. Comparing it to my Joust CP which has leafs, it looks like the only difference is the shape of the joystick holes though. (slotted vs. round) Couldn't you just cut the arcadeshop one to make the joystick holes round?

He said one guy was supposed to come from 2hrs away and never showed up,the other two he didn't explain. When I got there he said he didn't have the key and I still don't have it but I did get it open. DId you really come all the way out here to see it? He never mentioned it. You know the price on the ad was wrong right? Trust me I didn't pay the $549 he was asking. I wasn't really looking for one,I just happened to come across it while browsing CL and thought it would be cool to have. I thought he was asking such a high price because it was really a 10/10 like the ad said but out of curiousity I called anyway and thats when he told me the price was wrong. All of the kids will be here this weekend so they will test it out thoroughly i'm sure. Thanks for the tip on the CPO. Did these not come from the factory with optic sticks?

I believe you on acquiring from the OPs,theres no way you would be finding the rare titles that you have on CL. My max travel time is 3hrs each way but it'd better be good.

I think this guy is a liar and dont know why he needs to lie. He first had it listed for $349. then he said when he put it back up he will raise the price just so no one will be interested while I'm on my way. Didn't make sense to me why he did that, but whatever made him happy. I just he was trying to see how much the machine was really worth. Yeah I came out there and I guess he thought I was going to buy it anyway since I made that trip. I guess he didn't realize I had no problems saying no. I could have talked him down, but I really didn't even want it after seeing it wasn't in the condition I was expecting, plus I had two at home already in better conditon. So yeah a waste of a trip and gas, but thats the name of the game when dealing with craigslist sellers. I believe the optic sticks were made on earlier version machines, then they later came out with the leaf style one that are also used on Defender machines

I have a overlay for a Joust with optical sticks. My original was too good to swap out.......

Yes the optic sticks came out from the factory. They did not make alot like this, I dont have the numbers. The optic sticks are awesome.... Like playing joust driving a Caddy!!!

Nice Score.......

The optical sticks were a late addition and were very low numbers. Operators just wanted the mechanical sticks because they had parts for them. With the opticals they had to shut the game down, pull the stick and take it back to the shop to fix.

I think they play better than the mechanicals and that's why my "keeper" Joust has opticals.

The ciggy burns are where they were because they would sit the cigs on teh console with the butt facint the bezel and the cherry hanging out over the edge. But they would get involved and the cig would burn down and melt the CPO. Bastards!

That joust is in fine original shape. Don't touch a thing. That CPO lived through the glory years. Keep it factory. IMHO of course :)

For a 30+ year old game .. they are never going to be a 10 out of 10...unless its been restored. Really..its a nice Joust for a collector. I would only clean it up a bit and install the new cpo and enjoy it.

Great score dude!
