I found Heaven and I didn't have to die to get there

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I'm really looking forward to this new adventure. (my wife isn't!)

Love your enthusiasm, have fun with it.
Your wife will get over it once you pick up some games she really likes (mine did).
She still teases me about needing help and says stuff like "you need to go to a 12 step program", but its all in fun now.
My wife plays pretty much on a daily basis, but really only a certain type of games like Dig Dug, Space Invaders, Timber, Tapper and Frogger. The game room is also a big hit when people come over (especially from out of town). When you have a group of people over and they are all enjoying it and having fun, that changes it a bit.
Cheers

My advice if you're just getting into the hobby... take your time and learn what prices cabs go for... especially the ones your after. Don't just jump at the first game that excites you.

Also avoid multicades and lcd screened games at all costs... they are garbage. This is the "preservation" community meaning we try to keep them as original as possible. :)

Good luck, and hopefully you can get a working game to start because you always want at least one working so you can enjoy it... while the other ones are being repaired. ;)

You'll probably need to drop a few hundred on tools/equipment/parts if you get into fixing them... you might already have some since you're an EE, though.

Also before buying, learn about what to look for with games... these things are 30+ years old at times, and there are some things you really want to avoid when buying, so you don't end up dumping money into a game when you can avoid it.

I just joined the forum today and I'm overwhelmed with all the great stuff here. I absolutely love this website and the forum.

I'm on old school arcade gamer (which I'm pretty sure most of you here are too) and have always been interested in collecting/building/restoring arcade games. Being in the military over the past 30 years has pretty much prevented me from pursuing my passion (moving every 2 or 3 years will do that to you). Although finding this forum has certainly rekindled the idea of collecting some of my favorites.

After a quick browse through the forums, I realized I have so much to learn. I'm an electrical engineer by education, craftsmen and computer geek by hobby and gamer by passion. I'll take any tips from the experts on how to learn more about collecting and restoring classic arcade consoles. Aside from this website, I'm sure there's others out there.

Thanks in advance to you all!

Welcome to the forum!

What branch are you in?

Welcome!

You should get a Zaxxon and a Xevious.

Those are two of my favorite games. Spent many a quarter on Zaxxon. My all time favorite game is Ikari Warriors. That is very high on my priority list. Spy Hunter is another favorite.

Thanks for the tip. I'm still reading and learning as much as I can right now.

Cheers!
