I just had two monitors take a sh$t on me. So a little back story on the one I'm working on. It's a k7197 that started having jailbars on the left side of the screen, which started getting worse as time went on. Until it got so bad that it started getting dark on that side and the black bars started rolling. Now it doesn't fire up at all. Every once in a while I would get static sound and sometimes I wouldn't. Now I don't at all. After capping, new fly, new HOT, checking C36 and the VR aaannnddd reflowing most of the board. I still get nothing. Checking my B+ I'm getting around 160 and 174. My VR didn't seem to have a short but I'm ordering one anyway. I pulled one leg of D10 and it still didn't fire up. Oh, I'm getting about 134 at the monitor plug from my transformer. I've read that that should be ok. Is it? Any ideas here?

If it worked (sort of) before you rebuilt it - and your IC4 doesn't show any shorts - then you most likely have a bad trace you missed. You can't just reflow. You have to jumper to adjacent pads.

There is a pic in the K7000 sticky that shows the most problematic areas. Wiggle the parts above and see if the pads move...

Double checked IC4, no shorts. Double checked caps, C40 was backwards. Could've sworn I put it in the way the other came out. Switched it. Went over the problematic areas pointed out by mod and desoldered, looked at traces and resoldered. Maybe one sketchy trace, that I jumpered. Still no neck glow and still getting and B+ is still 160 and 171. Ack.

i would replace C40 in case you damaged it by reversing it.

i would also meter all the big wite resisters on the chassis to see if they are in tolerance.

i would measure R91, 101
D13, 16. and C37.

Peace

All those checked out. I'm not getting voltage at the HOT. I've been over this chassis three times looking for broken traces and loose pads. I can't find any more.
