I don't know about you, but when I go to fellow collectors arcade.....

or an arcade out in the wild, the first thing I play are games I already HAVE in my own collection! I eventually get to the games i don't have but after I play the ones I play almost everyday at home. territorial? perhaps. does anyone else do this or should I seek therapy?

I do it as well, and at shows too. Just to see how they play compared to the ones in my collection. The vids usually aren't that different, but the pins are.

I do that too, perhaps to get comfortable before branching out to the games I'm not so familiar with.

I do this too, and it's usually just to see how the controls differ.

Sometimes my intentions are more sinister, and I'm just trying to post a HS on someone else's machine. I thought I was going to do just that on Arcadenut's DK machine the other night, only to lose all of my lives on the same stage. Had to settle for 4th place. Next time, Gadget. Next time.

I used to do this but have weened myself off of it. I realize if I'm at someones place that I don't get to spend time at every day and they have games I don't play often or ever, I should try them. Maybe I'll find a new favorite. Once I've tried what's new to me then I'll try and put up a high score on their game that I know I'm good at. lol

you know, another thing i do is when i get a new to me game, i usually will play the same title somewhere else to see if it has the same glitch, etc, that mine does.

I do the same thing, just to warm up and possibly make a high score before I fail miserably at games I've only played once at Funspot or in MAME :D

The first thing I scope out and play is any grails I don't have or games I grew up with and played a lot.... sometimes this includes ones I haven't seen in 25 years and such, so I'm anxious to play them first.

After I'm done with that, I also like to play the same games I own that's there, for the reasons mentioned here already.. check out the controls, cab, graphics, etc., and if it's real nice or a minty example of the machine I'll give props to the owner (what owner doesn't want that, lol). I find myself comparing condition, gameplay, feel, etc., like any good collector does.

If it's minty, better than mine, and a game I plan on always having in my collection, I may even mention my (subtle) interest in it if the owner ever decides to part with the machine. I don't mind if someone let's me know they would be interested in one of my machines, either, to me it's part of the hobby :)

I like to play the stuff I haven't tried or played in a long time first. The other thing I love is to play the dedicated versions of stuff I have only tried in MAME to see if they feel any different.

It's rare for me to find someone who has a game I like that I don't have, so yeah... but knocking off their high scores is what matters. I usually use their initials backwards, so they know it's not them, but don't know who it was :)

I welcome it! It will give me incentive to beat it!

:D

Ohh, I'd hate you and spend every last waking moment trying to remove your score! :)

Or just do a score reset in the menu if I can't beat it, lol

I do the same thing! I also do the same thing when I find an arcade with classic games. Drives my wife nuts, but you gotta post a decent score right? "why do you pay for games you can play at home?"

WTF! I know you have not been to my house, but someone did this exact thing on my Multipede. The score is above 250k and I can barely break 100k.
