When people throw games and parts in a dumpster or when they destroy them in some other way instead of just giving them away ?

They ask for a couple bucks and if they don't get the few dollars , it gets destroyed , well why not give them away to someone who will use it ?

Throw all of it in a box and say whoever pays shipping gets the box of parts ? I know its time consuming , so you don't have to individually package each part and ship each thing , throw it ALL in a box and make one trip to the post office a month .

personally I seldom trash stuff but I do notice that when people offer odds and ends parts up like this the posts seldom get a response. Seems to me that most are not interested in the stuff so it's not worthwhile for those parting to keep piles and piles of stuff around.

I think you're reading something into it that isn't there. Who said I was in love with those monitors I tossed in the trash? They were just 19" raster monitors, which a few years ago, nobody cared enough about to come pick up as many as they wanted, for free. And there's a LOT of collectors in the ATL area.

Richard

Yep that's another way to aproach this matter and I can't say you are wrong, here parts are so scarce that I would even concider loving a monitor.
I was talking more like setting a cab with artwork on fire or trashing it etc etc.

Most of us in the hobby are jerks in some form or fashion. If I was getting something for free my first response is when is a convenient time for you. I hate clutter so I've given away a bunch of stuff - working monitors, cabs, random parts, etc. Not once has someone asked when it was convenient for me. Every single time the tell me when they can get it and I'm supposed to adjust my schedule to give it to them for free? I can understand why someone would rather throw it in the trash then play the waiting game.

Put it at the curb and tell them it's waiting for them. Then see how fast they get their ass over to pick it up! :004_ssleepy:

Ive wondered the same thing too. I can see dumb shit getting tossed. Everyones tossed dumb shit. At this moment if I tossed everything I dont want, Id need a roll-off.

I think its funny when people say 'I want 50 bucks (or more) or its gonna hit the garbage.' Makes me lol sometimes.

" Will you take 40 bucks ? "

" No 50 bucks or its going in the garbage "

...............

" I didn't get 50 bucks so I tossed it last week "

This is easy.

Time is $$$ my friend and sometimes it's just not worth it to waste time shipping crap out for nothing especially in volume.

i am tired of trying to give people on here parts for the cost of shipping and either they say they will take the parts and then stop responding once you box it up and get a shipping quote or they try and haggle over shipping. its the fucking cost of shipping people if you cant pay dont play the damn game. that is why i throw parts away now

Guess I haven't had that experience - haggling over shipping on free stuff. I have picked up a monitor and med-res chassis for "free" - just pay shipping - on the forum in the past. I was ecstatic that I was able to "save" the stuff from the trash just for shipping cost. Not everyone is a dead-beat. :)

I definitely understand where folks are coming from with the hassle of giving away "free" stuff and dealing with a numb nuts receiver that won't just go through with the deal - it's "FREE" - either you want it and pay shipping or don't bother. Pretty simple but not for all.... ;)

No one here on KLOV will ever throw away as much stuff as operators did back in the late 80's. TONS of working games were thrown in the dump. And here we are today still finding grails. Big deal.

I agree. I wouldnt want to box up a cp for nothing to guarantee its safe arrival. I would, however, just toss it in a box and throw some newspaper in and hope it made it ok for free. If I wanted something like that to be packaged right, then I would kick some extra money for the other guys time/materials.

Anyone who argues with the cost of shipping is an idiot, unless youre saying shipping on a pcb is 50 bucks lol.

I would have to say that I look over the free stuff post all of the time. The only problem for me is that none of the material is useful to me at that moment in time. I have a ton of games but I don't really need that many parts. But, if something did come across that I needed I would make sure that I spoke up. Just my 2 cents. Keep the Change.

I don't get it either, it's irritating as hell. I suppose that the inability to shit out free boxes, bubblewrap and various other things may have something to do with it though.
