Until now I have avoided picking up any of the pac series games, at least for the short time that Ive been collecting. I had myself convinced that I was more into the obscure (rare?) games and Pacman was for the masses who didnt understand the hobby. Well I fell into a cheap Pacman deal that I couldnt refuse and I finally got around to replacing the flyback on the g07 with a used one I had tonight. I played it for the last 20 minutes or so with the lights off in the game room and Stevie knicks on the jukebox. Theres something about the glow of the white marquee in your eyes and the contrast of yellow and blue on the screen. I guess I "get it" now where as I didnt before. I can see why it captivated so many back in the day.

Yup, I wasn't really into the Pac series until a cherry running Ms Pac fell into my hands. It's definitely addictive. I think it's beauty is in the simplicity.

Pac Man is hypnotic; Ms. Pac has that plus better game play.

Similarly, Asteroids, Missile Command, and Space Invaders can captivate you if you are easily distracted by patterns, lights and repetitive sounds.

Even in the distant past, mankind has known how to use light and sound to control to an extent the human mind. Video games are an extension of that and great game designers know how to hypnotize players.

This sounds really a lot deeper than it is - but we all know there are some games that just "click" with almost anyone. And there are games that click with some people and other hate them - because certain color/light/sound patterns rebound off some people differently than others.

I don't particularly enjoy Pac Man myself, but love Ms. Pac because of the changing mazes - but I still catch myself playing Pac from time to time because subconsciously it draws me back.

And if someone put subliminal messages in Tempest they could probably make me do anything. I completely zone out when I play that game. I lost 2 hours and thought it was 5 minutes a few months ago. My wife wanted me to call a doctor.

wow that was deep.........

Yes Pacman rules and it is hard too . The masses might like it but can they get high scores ?

I really would LOVE a pacman, but they still fetch high prices, I never liked pacman and then all of a sudden I got hooked, I love the fast variation as well. Im still trying to learn some patterns but thats a whole new ballgame.

Good to see you enjoying that great deal you got! :beerchug:

BTW, thanks again for those Cinematronic games... the son and I have been playing Armor Attack until our forearms feel like they are going to pop off our bodies! :)

i think the fast versions are the best and i hypothesize its a classic because you can play it either right or left handed. some people are right brained or left brained, not everyone is good at shooters and i always play pac games with my right hand as opposed to shooting games where you need your right hand for the fire button. for some people who arent good at any other games, maybe its because you can play pac man with either hand.

I love the sounds of pac man. For me ms pac is a better game but the sounds in pac man are distinctive and take me back. Actually I think it was maybe a year ago when I played pac man again for the first time in I don't know how many years. I heard the music and sounds and just sat there in awe. Played it for a few minutes and then just kept crediting the game and hitting start, Didn't even play. Just listened.
