I CAN HAS COLOR VECTOR!! My newest cabinet! WOOT!!!

JUST got home from Boston with my newest cabinet.... a GRAVITAR!! Been in love with this game ever since I played it at Funspot. Never played this one when I was younger but knew that this was the vector for me after attempting to play it earlier this year.

This one has been floating around here in New England from collector to collector. And, well, it's new to me! Picked it up from Walt in Lynn who got it from Rob C. Thanks guys! :)

The cabinet is pretty solid, very decent overall. Not much to do really. The CP could use some work, no worries though, it came with a new CPO! Woot!!

It has a claycowgill board installed on the PCB and the jeff hendrix board on the monitor. So, that's cool. Right?

Also wondering if anyone has any tips in adjusting these types of monitors. Links? The picture is good but I feel like it could be brighter and better - but it's definitely not BAD. Not sure what all those knobs on the neck board do.

Anyways, here it is...

YES! Congrats man. Welcome to the vector game world. You started with one of the most awesome, and most brutally hard games. Really nice. I played this one quite a bit at Caex. Like an awesome hybrid of Lunar Lander and Asteroids.

A friend recently showed me the trick where you fall through the map in one of the worlds and can destroy the cannons from inside the world.

I don't know much about non-amplifone vectors, but as you know well, the manual will be your friend. One of the self test screens will have a color set up screen, with 6 or 8 colored groups of 5 lines each, which go from dim to bright in each color. You use that screen along with the steps in the monitor manual (http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Monitors/Atari Monitor TM-183 3rd Printing WG 6100 XY Quadrascan .pdf) to get the colors and brightness dialed in. Here's the FAQ for the monitor - it has a section on fine tuning the picture: http://www.ataricade.com/WG_6100_FAQ.pdf

Dude! Thanks for those links, they are going to prove quite useful. Read the manual and did the self test screens. Looks like I need to adjust and play with the XY pots on the PCB. The screen size and location is not right. But, the game is still very playable and it doesn't look horrid, just not perfect. Seems like a lot of trial and error with those pots on the PCB.

Anyways, I am pretty psyched to have this. I knew what I was getting into. I wanted it because it was a brutal game. I figured it would have great long term appeal.

Congrats! You will soon become a K6100 "self proclaimed" expert ;)
If it doesn't have an LV mod on it get one installed and also get a fan on the HV cage (or leave the back door off) Order a ZANEN get will kit for it - by far the most extensive kit I've seen for these. This way you also have spare transitors on hand which is one of the most common failures.

It has the Jeff Hendrix mod which I guess is the LV mod?

I think it is this board (it has two LEDs on it and is attached to the chassis on the left and to the right of the flyback):

And, it also has this board on the PCB:

Question, are the player 1 and player 2 start buttons supposed to be those cone type buttons? Mine has Round cylinder shaped light-up buttons. That's not right, is it?

Congrat's I love mine. This and Timber are the two games that will never leave my house. If you want some tips read Dan Coogans Gravitar Page Start with the Northwest Planet (8000 pts) first, you get more points that way. If yours is missing the Backdoor Sheet I scanned it in, get that here.

Keep on the lookout for Black Widow CP/Board/Marquee you can swap between the two games. I do, it's really easy. I have Gravitar in right now. I'm thinking of putting BW back in. My kids can play that easier.

Most people that play mine think it's to hard. I can almost make it to the third 3rd solar system. I keep running out of fuel on the last planet. :banghead:

Thanks for the back door scan!! Mine was missing the back door and the seller took a back door from a Black Widow and stuck it on. So, mine has a black widow back door sheet. Which is kind of cool. :)

I'd love to swap it out for Black Widow. I'll keep my eyes open. Thanks!
