Hello All - could of sworn my trackball worked fine until I wired up my new 4 way player 1 joystick. Now my trackball is eratic...sometimes rolling / and lots of times in the wrong direction..

I am using the Jamma Trackball harness....and have the common ground of the trackball wired to a screw in the case.

Any ideas...tried the two iCade switches in the setup - no fix...would it really go bad this easy? Do you think its the board or the trackball?

Sucks...everything else works EXCELLENT.

follow up

Let me clarify...it doesnt move on its own...but when I move....it sometimes goes the right way and sometimes doesnt.

i don't understand what you said about the ground, but you should connect it to the same ground that the joystick uses and is connected to the JAMMA harness.

And you can put it on the input test to see if anything is firing when it shouldn't...

Mod is obviously an expert here, I am not sure i understood your post correctly.

If you have a trackball harness that connects directly to (con 3? ) on the pcb, the ground is already present.

So the green wire(earth ground) that comes from the trackball needs to be somehow (roundaboutly) wired to the 3rd prong of the power cord, not to the same black wired ground that goes to the joystick. This could be a problem if you are wiring the joystick ground to the earth ground on your trackball, but I wouldn't know.

Clarification

Thanks guys...clarification.

The ground(earth ground) is connected to cabinet under a screw did this on my last mame and it worked fine.

I am using the Trackball to Jamma harness cable which uses the MOLEX connectors so it should be a no brainer. I disconnected and reconnected connection to the trackball and the connector to the Con3.

The trackball (2 1/4" Happ Trackball with red PCB's on it) ONLY moves when I move it....but it doesn't always go the correct direction. Could hooking up a 4 way joystick mess it up? I used the P1 connectors and grounds and the joystick works perfect.

Next question...what sounds that it could be at fault - the trackball or the iCade board?

EVERYTHING else works PERFECT....so ready to be finished with this project...
Any suggestions will help....THANK YOU ALL !!

yeah that joystick shouldn't mess it up.

Do you have another jamma board you can put into the game? trying playing it with the trackball(instead of the joystick) and see what happens.
