Just thought I would throw this out here since its the first one I have run across. Its an early build pac pcb and has several differences that I have noticed.
First is the number on the pcb ends in A000 instead of B000 like all other pac pcbs do.
Second there are no holes in the pcb for the zip ties on the sync bus and vram cards since they used customs. I have come across many with customs but they still had the holes for zip ties.
Third, reset line and coin counter 5v is not run out to the edge connector.
I may have never noticed this except my bench test control box has a reset button so I can reset a pac board via control panel.
The board has a sticker on it that says "PAC-MAN GAME LOGIC BOARD M051-00932-A006". Hmm, could possibly be #6 pac pcb to be produced?? Im only guessing thats the serial number but who knows. Would be cool if it were true.

I have also a A000 pcb (A082-91375-A000 on the pcb)
My sn is 411 on the big resistor
the sticker PAC-MAN GAME LOGIC BOARD M051-00932-A006 is not the sn i have that sticker on a B000 pcb

So is there any difference in the ROM's or gameplay? (I'm assuming not)

Not sure if this is the same thing you're talking about but there are different patterns for different Pac boards (or Rom versions I guess). I've got a book on PacMan that I bought new off of the shelf in 1982 where they talk about the mfg. changing gameplay as people figured the patterns out for them.

By then (Jan. 82) there were several known differences and each board was named by the city where it was "discovered". The board in my machine is a later model and called an Atlantic City board. It was found after the book was finished so there's only a couple of pages in an addendum in the back of the book about the patterns on it.

No, those were illegal upgrades. I do remember seeing some of those. You can tell on the later boards, because when Inky comes out of the pen right away (starting with the Strawberry), on this upgrade, he bounces up and down a couple times before coming out

I'll watch for that on mine the next time I play it. I know it's different from the one I played so much at the skating rink a long time ago.

There's also a way to tell a difference in some of the boards by the patterns the ghosts run in the attract mode, but I can't remember it off the top of my head.

here's my early production Pac pcb with the custom chip for the synch bus and V-Ram.

Mylstar, does your board have the holes for the zip ties that hold down the sync bus and vram cards? I have had a bunch of boards with the customs but all of them had the holes there. This board does not.
I didnt notice any difference in gameplay. I will pull the roms and see if they are standard files.

Looking for a set of the custom chips for testing my multipac (without having to remove the boards everytime. Anyone have a set I can buy?

Barry, I have some but you can also get jroks replacments to do the same thing. I use them for bench testing boards since they dont cover up anything. PM me, I have originals or jrok replacments in stock.
