I have never attempted to fix a monitor before but I have thought about trying. I have this mint Cruisin game with a Wells Gardner WG1900737 monitor. Has one real bright line across the center of the screen. I can hear the game playing and you can see the colors changing as the game is playing. Will this monitor need to be totally recapped? Is it a flyback issue. Maybe just one Cap or resistor?...Thanks for any input

1) Don't leave that on like that for very long.

2) You posted the serial number, not the chassis model. Look here to figure out which chassis you have.

3) If it is a K7500, I just fixed this same problem last week, and will be glad to help you, but...

4) Once you have figured out the model number, post this in the Monitor Repair/Help section....

Well, we're in the monitor section now. Once you ID the chassis properly, we'll go from there...

Model is a K7500

Opened the manilla envelope and inside was a owners manaul for a Wells Gardner 258K7501 or 25K7502. I Looked at the pictures in the owners manual and it looks just like the monitor in the game. I wish I could find the tag on the monitor but it is a low door game and the monitor is up in there, tight. I don't have the front apart yet. I have swapped many monitors in my life, but never tried to fix one...Usually just take the monitor to Shaeffer Dist to fix for about $100 bucks. Still would like to try, though, if it is a pretty easy fix. I do have a soldering iron and am pretty steady. I have also discharged monitors before, too. Thanks

Since monitors get switched out quite often, don't go by material you find in cabs. Take some pics and upload them for everyone to take a look.

I guarantee you will have an answer within minutes.

I don't doubt that it may be a K7500, but the U5000 looks very similar to the untrained eye.

Ok, now that we have an idea of the chassis model, we need to fix the problem.

1) First, check to make sure that R402 has not burned up. If it has you will need to replace it. It is a 1.2-ohm 1/2-watt resistor.

2) Next, you probably need to replace ALL the electrolytic caps, but especially the ones in the 600's.

3) Whether or not you see any burned parts, you most likely need to replace the vertical IC at U601. The part # is TDA1771...

You can also try slapping the side of the cab. If you get vertical deflection when you do this then you know it's a cold solder joint on the chassis yoke header. All you would have to do then is reflow the solder to fix this issue. Might as well replace the caps while you have the chassis out if that's the problem.
